Losing and Old Friend

My second most favoritest crock pot died today. :( And right in the middle of Cherry Glazed Pork Chops too! Good thing I was home, the crock is finishing up in the oven now.

How long do I have to be in mourning before I can go buy a new one?

I'd say you only have to mourn for as long as it takes you to pull Sunday's newspaper out of the recycle bin, check the weekly ads, and find out who has a good Crock Pot on sale. Then grab your purse and go!

Maybe the company still makes that crockpot or you might be able to buy the same make and model on ebay.

btw, I made your black bean recipe and both me and my son really liked it!

You mean you haven't yet? What will you have for dinner tomorrow, lol.

I know what you mean though. I absolutely love my crock. It is the first one I bought brand new and it has a warm button and it's cute.

But, the handle to the lid broke. It's a perfectly good crock. Nothing wrong with it but that. But, do you know how hard it is to get the lid off without the handle. Let me tell you! I have a permanent steam burn on my right wrist. I have almost dropped the thing a million times (it's glass). I haven't figured out which spoon is the best one to stick between the lid and the crock, so it's always iffy on the slippin and slidin.

I haven't given up on her yet though. But, if the day after Tday comes and there's a really good buy, she'll have to go in the next yard sale, sorry Crocky.

You might want to take your crock into your local hardware store. The one here has replacement lids, so you don't have to buy the whole unit. They are sort of universal lids that fit Pyrex casseroles, cast iron pans and pots and other round cooking items that have accident prone lids. Just a thought.... That way you wouldn't have to part with an old friend -- you could just buy her a new hat!

More importantly, how long until you can work the old, now-dead one into a letterbox some how?

Wow, that's great info. Thanks. I haven't looked online because there are so many different sizes nowadays.

My Crocky would look good in a new hat.

Or check with the manufacturer. I have been able to purchase all kinds of replacement parts for different things, including appliance lids, trays etc.

Sorry it took so long to get back to this.

Cherry Glazed Pork Chops

6 large, boneless chops, 3/4 inch thick (the ones I used were labelled "grillers", whatever that means)
1 T olive oil
Salt & Pepper, to taste
1 15oz can cherry pie filling (I used the no-sugar-added kind)
1 t. lemon juice
1 t. (or 1 cube) chicken bouilllon
1/4 t. ground mace (you might be able to substitute nutmeg, if you don't have mace)

Salt and pepper both sides of the chops and brown them in oil (lid on). Combine reserved cooking juices with other ingredients. Layer sauce and chops in crock pot and cook on low 6 hours.

We ended up shredding the meat and eating it like pulled pork. Yummy!!

I wonder where a crock would fit on Poison Ivy's letterbox rating system?
