letterboxing appeals to people with imagination and creativity, primarily. unfortunately, those qualities are crushed out of many of the little boys in our society, while being encouraged in little girls...only the best of the litle boys can retain these qualities into their adulthood...and they are sucked into letterboxing.

I'm female, but I took up boxing for the exact same reasons he did. my doctor told me to walk...and once you've been around the neighborhood a couple of times, you get bored. but...tell me there's a box at the end of the trail, and I'll walk until I collapse to get to it.

agreed. i started lb'ing as a way to spend quality time with my daughter. finding interesting places you never knew were there, the cerebral satisfaction of solving cryptic clues, and attending events and meeting new friends you have something in common with also add to the allure.

I took up letterboxing because my sister told me it was so much fun. So I started and loving it. Trying to keep my son involved. He likes the events more than the actually "hunting". And I like how it gets me out to places I would have never found before.

I took up letterboxing because I thought it would be a great way to spend some quality time with my kids, outside of the house, away from TV and Video Games and out in the open, doing some hiking and treasure hunting. Letterboxing has taken us to some very interesting places. Most of all, it's fun!

last summer we attended an event with very few men present......
one of the men said "Gotta love a hobby that's 85% female, huh Charlie?".....

So.... there could be some truth to the above statement.

It is sad that even in today's society, so much is "Gender appropriated" in our children.

Charlie and I love to be outside....... and we wouldn't ever just GO for walks or hikes..... but for the letterbox ???? We're there....

My boys look at it like a treasure hunt and they love it. And they like the places that we get to go. For me, I am an outdoorsman. I hunt, fish, hike, water ski, you name it. But I am also very creative and crafty. I learned to sew at 5, do counted cross stitch at 7, candle wicking by 9, and I have been cooking since I can remember. I also love to write and draw, so letterboxing encompasses alot of my passions in one past time.

Now if Ryan could just develop a Wii Letterboxing Game that I can play when I have insomnia or really nasty weather sets in, all the bases would be covered.
