taped, reusable envelopes

I have a question about the taped envelopes. I place a piece of paper with the edges taped down, and corner folded in the stamp area. Then I place my stamps on it so that they can be easily removed and new stamps replaced. Also to keep the cancellation stripes from messing up my envelop.

This week I received my envelope back with triple cancellation- two in the corner all over the stamp area and BEYOND and one in the opposite corner. All of which were much larger than normal. I am concerned that with the cancellation marks my envelope will not be processed. I don't know if anyone has any ideas on how to salvage my envelope for reuse? Or any ideas on how to prevent this in the future?

Thanks!

Sounds like the clerk was stamp happy. Maybe some white-out or just scribble over the marks. I've seen scribbing on envelopes I've received. It shouldn't affect future mailings.

Honestly, mine come back with all kinds of cancellations on them and nothing has ever been said nor do I have any issues with mailings. You can try to use hand sanitizer to remove the marks...

Hope this helps!!

No idea on preventing it in the future, but if you are concerned about problems with using the envelope again, you can cut a a piece of paper to the size of the front of the envelope and tape it in place using packing tape. I did that after we moved... put my new mailing address and return address on it before taping it down, then covered the whole thing with strips of packing tape that went around to the back side. That envelope has been used from our apartment in NY to our house in Louisiana, and now our house in Oregon.

yes, i agree with using alcohol to remove the marks, or StazOn stamp cleaner or GooBegone

I use alcohol to remove stamping and perm. marker too. As long as it is on a slick surface, it works well.

To help remove the cancellation strips, or to help you to not care? 🍺🍹🍾

The cancellation marks won’t matter so long as they aren’t on the stamps.

To help remove the cancellation strips, or to help you to not care?

👍 That’s hilarious!!!

Also, use a dry erase marker and scribble on the cancellation marks. Then use the dry eraser and they come right off.

Tape a piece of paper over the extra postmarks. particularly if it hit an untapped area.
