So, you all know that we have a young cat named Princess Leia. Little miss thing who has not concept of personal space. Anyhoo......

My darling princess has taken to catching birds and bringing them into the house, especially at night. This can upset the household, especially if we aren't able save potential victim in time from her, and please excuse the pun, her evil clutches.

Needless to say this is a bit stressful for me. While I am not particularly fond of birds, the fear of stepping on any one of them-- dead or alive-- in the middle of the night can be unsettling to anyone!

Anyhoooooo for some reason I have made this silly connection of this situation to a commercial from my childhood. Every time she does this, I want to snatch her up and ask her "Who taught you how to kill birds? Answer me!"

And in my mind, Princess Leia yells back, "You, all right! I learned it by watching you!"

And then the voice over says, "Parents who catch birds, have kittens who catch birds."

And then I chuckle. It's a drug commercial from the 1980s.

Keep her busy with this video. Maybe she will stay inside and watch You Tube instead.

Sadly, our cat wasn't interested.

Ah, cats! Gotta love 'em, don't you?

I used to live in a place with two cat doors, one in the back, one in the front. The cats preferred to use the back one, which just a few feet from where I slept. Nightly, I listened to one or other of the cats crunch up the rodents they brought in the cat door. It seems they preferred to eat on the carpet.

One memorable night, I heard the cat door open, then the sounds of a rodent being consumed. Then the sound of a cat throwing up. I jumped out of bed in the dark, and stepped in the leftovers of the rodent. My next step landed in the middle of the puke, and I slipped and nearly fell. By that time I was yelling so loud, all the cats bailed out the other cat door, and my boyfriend was cowering under the covers, wondering what was happening. He could sleep through the crunching and the puking, but not the yelling.

Another time, five young raccoons let themselves in, ate the food out the cat bowls and splashed in the water bowls all over. The boyfriend wouldn't believe me (he could sleep through anything), until I forced him out of bed during their next visit so he could see for himself. I flipped on the kitchen light, and all five of them tried to get through the cat door at the same time. They made it out, breaking the door on their way. We blocked off that door.

During the next raccoon raid, my boyfriend woke me to tell me to go chase out the raccoons. I told him it was his turn, so he went. He turned on the light, and then told me to close the bedroom door. The visitor made his way down the hall and out the cat door. Big Daddy Raccoon wasn't the least bit afraid, but at least he was amenable to leaving, thank goodness.

I moved out shortly after that, and now I have no cat doors. I allow one of my cats to go outside during the day, but the rest stay inside always. I hate cat doors.

Sorry so long, but I've waited for years to give my testimony against cat doors.

:^)

Kind of like this?

I remember that commercial!

Actually, given that her name is Princess Leia, I have to wonder if she's as good at killing stormtroopers as birds…

What do you think Princess Leia would do with this pair?

Almost. They couldn't make it through side by side, so they fought by pushing and throwing each other out of the way. The door did end up outside on the ground. What a ruckus it was.
