Santa Clarita Diet

With the zombie, vampire and undead#notundead scene kinda worn it’s welcome, I was not sure how well I would take to this series. And I would not say I am a huge fan of Drew Barrymore, granted I loved, loved 50 First Dates. (I almost peed myself with the bat scene laughing so hard-keeping it real here, folks.)

But I absolutely love this series-minus the last two minutes of Season 2 Season Finale.

Let’s back up.

The premise is as followed:
In the little town of Santa Clarita lives Joel and Shelia, a happily married couple who do joint real estate and are a bit of a push over. Well, one day, while showing a home, Shelia begins violently vomiting all over the master bedroom and with this vomit up comes a strange blood-red ball, and Shelia’s “death”. From that moment on, she needs meat—raw, human meat and Shelia suddenly is a new “Shelia”. She’s more vibrant, more “alive”, more unhinged.

This sudden and unexplained change in his wife leave Joel, an easy going, push-over in a lurch. He doesn’t understand what is happening but he certainly does not want to leave his wife. So, Joel does his best to keep up with his newly energized wife, while trying to solve what exactly happened to his her.

With them comes a cast of character that vary from a slightly obnoxious teenage daughter, a nosey and dirty cop neighbor, and the head of a co-worker. Yes. You read that right. The head of a co-worker. You have to see the show to understand.

Season 1 consists of what initially happens and how the Hammonds deal with this abrupt change in their lives.

Season 2 consists of the hunt for source of the undead plague and Officer Dan Palmer’s murderer.

As I have previous written, I love this show, minus the last 2 minutes of the last episode of Season 2. It kinda took a campy dive and I really thought they totally could have handled the ending MUCH better. Great build up, but total campy dive! AUGH! On to my Kitty Paw Ratings!

Kitty Paws:
One Kitty Paw for Joel! Played by Timothy Opyphant. Love him. He starts out as a weak man but he is coming in clutch for the wife and life!
One Kitty Paw for it’s fresh approach to a well-worn zombie, vampire and undead#notundead scene.
One Kitty Paw for pulling off a nice storyline of a co-worker’s head.
One Kitty Paw for keeping this kitty entertained and looking forward to Season 3.

But . . . I just cain’t let go of the last two minutes of last episode tank. So, I am taking ¼ Kitty Paw off.

So, if you are circling Santa Clarita Diet with a hunger you have never known, take a bite. At 3.75 Kitty Paws, I highly recommend it.

I watched the first few episodes, mainly to see as many location shots as possible of Santa Clarita (my hometown!)

I didn't really get into it, although I heard later that the coworker's head in question is played by Nathan Fillion, so maybe I should go back and watch just for that!
