Is there a board on AQ specifically about Facebook? No... But you're more than welcome to talk about it here or one of the Yakking It Up boards.

Speaking of Facebook, though, the official Facebook page for AQ is located at https://www.facebook.com/AtlasQuest/. Apparently, there's been some confusion about that recently. =)

I'm hooked up to the AQ, FB group, but I keep a low profile on FB.
I prefer to discuss AQ stuff here where everyone can have a voice, and (I think) better understands about sharing box info.

So, AQers, do we need a FB board?
Agree = YES, a board open to everyone
Disagree = flat out NO
Interesting = YES, but a closed board, by invitation only ( I vote Agree, open to all)

I'll check back on Monday, unless someone else goes ahead and creates the board.

How would a FB board differ from the other general boards already on AQ?

make it a favorite or ignore the board.
just a place where, hopefully, the discourse is FB/AQ pertinent.
I don't say anything on the FB/AQ group.
I have no desire for someone to look at my profile and find people I know that have nothing in common with AQ.

(the reason I joined FB was because of an organization that heavily uses FB to communicate. I had no other way to attach myself to them.)

I don’t see any reason to discuss Facebook on AQ. What is there to discuss? I’m on Facebook and I don’t see that there is anything to discuss.
Other than the general griping about Facebook that goes on.....and that is on Facebook.

Am I missing something?

What would people talk about?

What would people talk about?

Mark Z. and his secret proclivity toward geocaching.
How to best bribe The Letterboxing Police.
Some guy named Kram Dnalekreb.
Sue Pergenius that has been Employee of the Month for far too long.

edit add in, forgot to say "Merry Christmas"

Well, I still don't get talking about facebutt stuff here when people already talk about facebutt stuff on facebutt.

But I happen to know that The Letterboxing Police can be bribed with ice cream.

We could gripe about the images of a few hundred stamps somebody just shared. I'm really pissed about that!

I'm wondering if the FB - AQ group moderator has any rules about posting this type of info.
Seeing box stamps was one of the things that prompted me to ask here.

I'm unschooled at the particulars of FB. Can a moderator hold a post until it's cleared scrutiny by a moderator?

I belong to one group with at least three moderators. Each is responsible for a specific area of content on the board.

Well, I guess I will be talking about facebutt on AQ.......because that really pisses me off also.

I'm only in one boxing group on FB and I see it wasn't done there. But it has been done before. I don't think the moderator creator of that group is even around anymore.

Do you want to say what group it is? I guess I could find it but....

Some of the people who have joined the group I'm in know nothing about boxing. Some of them don't know that AQ or LBNA exists and really have no concept of what the hobby is and has been all these years. They are kind of uber newbies. It's supposedly a closed group that requires an invite (but maybe not approval?) but some of the people I see posting sound like they have wandered in off the streets so to speak.

But some seasoned boxers who I feel should know better post images. Something seems to have evolved on Facebook that it is ok to share them there.

I know they can delete posts. But whether or not a post requires approval might depend on the settings of a group. I'm thinking most moderators don't do that because of the time involved. They just delete if necessary.

But like in the one group I'm in I don't even think the creator of the group is involved anymore or really cares what goes on.

There was a discussion once about someone sharing images and of course they got an attitude about it. So I think most people just avoid the issue all over Facebook even if they don't like them being shared. It's a hassle to get into arguments about it.

They posted photo albums on their own page. I shared the “respect” link from AQ code of conduct and asked that my images be removed. No response yet. My guess is that this person is at work and hasn’t had time to act...

Sounds to me like the person was just thrilled with the found artwork and wanted to share her joy with friends. I personally never knew this was not allowed and will try to be more aware in the future. FB does have letterbox groups as well as stamp carving groups.

"Do not publish clues or stamp images that are not your own unless you have the owner's permission."

This has been #1 in the Code of Conduct since before either you or I joined AQ.

And while it is not an actual "rule" most people will also not publish images they themselves have planted/carved because they know that most of us want to receive a nice surprise when we find the box.

The above has been common practice and courtesy for many, many years.

So... I am one of the folks who got excited and posted the first box I found to my personal f.b. page immediately after finding (on acident) my first letter box. I then finished a long hike. The next day I read to much about letter boxing to fast and retained maybe 20% of it. Maybe a week later I found a f.b. page... and shared the same images. (Cringeworthy, my bad, sincerest apologies) when some kind soul reminded me that's not done I offered to leave it up as a teaching moment and apologiesed... and then I remembered that's not how f.b. works... and so I deleted both albums from both places, as best as a not tech person can. So...point is honest mistakes do happen, but it can be handled in a constructive way...even on f.b. also I owe runsforbeer a big apology and a very large beverage.

An honest mistake and an honest effort to fix it!

Luckily they still make erasers and tomorrows!
