Planting Boxs - newbie qustions

I am tripping over restricted boxs in stone mountain park...so in order to avoid planting to close to all y'alls amazing boxes I have decided not to plant in the part at all. That said there are a number of areas around both SMtnVillage and Metro Atlanta that seem surprisingly box free- but my find count is tiny, so maybe they are all boxed up and I just don't know it yet. If anybody can think of reassons (unless the reason is the box might go missing- i kinda expect to loose a box or two ) not to plant boxes in these neighborhoods please let me know.
East Atlanta Village, the Stone Mountain Cemmetary, Avondale Estates, Wade Walker Park, Harriston Rd Park, The King Center/Sweet Auburn Area, Atlanta-Stone Mountain path (excluding Clarkeston where there are already boxes.) Oakland Cemmetary and Cabbage Town (I can only see one...)
I dont have a crazy number of boxes...so if one location seems particularly good maybe mention that too.

Most restrictions placed on boxes are due to number of boxes planted.

No... but you are free to come plant as many as you want in California's central valley!

Really?
I exclusively use number found.

As a sidebar to the OP, I use the thumb rule of finding 10 boxes in a geographic area for ever 1 box I plant in order to get a 'feel' on the area: e.g. weather, box longevity, boxing traffic, noxing traffic, container suitability, etc.

I'm not sure that a "feel on the area" is a good thing. To some extent, planting a box that is *not* the same style as others in the area brings color to the pastime.

There haven’t been a lot boxes planted in the Atlanta area recently so any new ones would be appreciated! Stone Mountain, Panola Mountain, and Decatur Cemetery are the only ones I can currently think of that really have a lot. I can’t speak for others, but I would not be offended if you planted a box near one of mine as long as you don’t knowingly plant it on top of it. If you plant one and find five, most boxes will be unlocked for you. Most people only use restrictions to deter vandals so they are usually pretty easy to overcome for anyone who is actually letterboxing for the joy of letterboxing. Welcome to the hobby! Hope you have fun with it!

If you are talking about planting at Hairston Park on S. Hairston in Stone Mountain, I'd say avoid it. I've only been to that park once (to release a captured rat), but I've driven by it a million times and I don't really think much of anything good ever goes on there. I'm pretty sure there was a drug deal going down the afternoon my husband and I released our catch. Wade Walker is a bit iffy, but better as it is used for a lot of sports events. And if you can find a place to plant on the PATH, please do. I biked about 10 miles of it one day trying to find a spot without success. :)
