Revitalizing Markers
Board: Tools of the Trade

Many years ago, someone gave instructions on how to re-moisten dried markers. My mom's just gotten into cardmaking, and we pulled out some LTC-making supplies, including Marvy markers that have been in storage for yonks*. We were amazed that they still work...somewhat. I need to know how to wake them back up. Help, please?

Tim Holtz uses a spray from Ranger that works on his markers that are water based so it may work.

Here's what I do. I get an eyedropper full of water, take the cap off the marker, hold the marker nib end up, carefully drop a single drop of water on the marker nib, wait for it to soak in, and then drop another drop, wait for it to soak in, and repeat this process a bunch of times - I just guesstimate how much I need based on how dry the marker is, the barrel diameter, etc. Then cap tightly, let the marker rest nib point up for a bit, test, and repeat if needed.

I've used this technique on several different brands of water-based markers and it seems to work pretty well.

Good luck
