Snow Status in CT

I've been getting questions about the snow status in Shelton after the last Nor'easter. That storm is history - we only got an inch and it melted immediately. South Shelton where I live is mostly bare ground with minor patches of snow in shady/drifted areas. The northern part of the City I believe is maybe half & half patchy snow/dirt but melting fast (Willis Woods/Birchbank/Indian Well areas). Pretty sure the trail for the Sky 2018 challenge at Ansonia Nature Center will be clear (dirt). I'm going over to Indian Well for trail maintenance and will know more.

We did get a tremendous amount of storm damage on the trails. Trails that I know have been cleared are the trails at Willis Woods, the Rec Path, Turkey Trot Trail, and the trail for the Ansonia Nature Ctr Sky's the Limit challenge. Be prepared for potential blowdowns and branches all over the trails elsewhere. Nells Rock Trail is supposed to get cleared Saturday morning.

Anyone know the state of the Westwoods Trails in Guilford? My original plan was to do that today, but it's a 6-mile hike and I'm not in shape to do that over snow.

P.M. Update: Indian Well State Park is completely snow-free and the Paugussett Trail from the falls area and heading north for one mile has been cleared of storm damage. The higher elevations in Shelton's White Hills (Nicholdale Farm/Willis Woods) is maybe 50/50 snow/dirt.

You were at Birchbank Mountain. Good to know. I have trail maintenance to do.

I planted my Sky box at Pierrepont State Park and was ankle-deep in snow most of the way.

We did 4 skys today - Guilford (2), East Haven (9), Moodus (10), Haddam (14). We really enjoyed all of the walks. No snow anywhere, however many large trees across trails - esp in East Haven and Haddam. Pickers are all over. We'd recommend anyone looking to box in East Haven go out soon before access to boxes becomes very prickly. Also, in Haddam we had a hard time figuring out what the ruins were. We never really found anything that matched the picture. We took our picture by some old foundations we found just before the tidal flat. Serious prickers kept us from getting too close. Earlier on the trail there was an old foundation, but that was 'in' the ground and the picture indicates'above'.

We only boxed in Guilford, and all of the boxes were fine.

In one day?! How many miles was that? Isn't the Guilford one supposed to be six miles?

My phone said we did about 8 miles.......Guilford can be 6 miles - or not. As long as you get to the Lost Lake Vista - which is really wonderful btw (large open flat ledge) - it can be as long as you want......

Interesting....I just did an overlay of the trail map into Google Earth so I could measure the length of the trail. Using the white circle trail as the shortest route from the designated beginning on Peddler's Road and the route described in their hike, I got a round trip of 3.8 miles (longer to for for boxes, of course). DEEP's description says 6 miles. When I did the same measurement for the Naugutuck State Forest hike at the Ansonia Nature Center, I got a solid 2.5 miles rather than DEEP's 2 miles. I guess take their mileage with a grain of salt.

I planted today at Farm River, trails were bare and i didn't see any storm damage on trail. As for the park itself, for anybody who has been there, they have done some major changes and the trails/bridges look awesome and are much clearer.

Excellent - on saturday we had to navigate under/around at least 3 large trees after turning on to the nature trail.
