Collateral, currently being blasted on Netflix this “thriller” is a four episode limited mini series starring Carey Mulligan, the lucky girl who is married to Marcus Munford-as in the hottie Munford and Sons lead singer- and the young lady who played opposite Leo DeCaprio in the Great Gatsby.

Mrs. Munford/Mulligan is the Detective Inspector assigned to the task of solving the murder of a Syrian refugee killed while delivering a pizza in the streets of London. From this moment on we are introduced to several people and four different plot lines.

By the time the third episode came I around, I was dreading finishing this series. This mini series is a mess. As I said before, 4 different plot lines, and of the 4 four, only two are actually related to the plot of the murdered Syrian-the purpose of the mini series. The other two are totally off the topic of the murder. But more importantly all four never come together to bring actual closure. In fact, I really felt these were not only a waste of time but one was just preachy. (Preachy about migration law and allowing refugees into Britain, a wonderful place to life. Here I have to roll my eyes. Brit-exit anyone???? Anyone???? Um, even Polish people are targeted by hate crimes in Britian, sooooooo . . . )

But I would argue a lot of this series is preachy all around, about several things, i.e. “I am just a humble cop.” “Cops are social workers”. Not a big fan of preachy.

Anyhooooo, on to my Kitty Paw Ratings:
One Kitty Paw for Carey Mulligan’s role
One Kitty Paw for Ahd’s role. (She portrays the sister of murdered Syrian.)
One Kitty Paw for their engaging interaction.
But I have to take away:
One Kitty Paw for the four plot lines that never converge.
One Kitty Paw for “too many coincidences of characters”. *
One Kitty Paw for the two of line plot lines being un-related to this “thriller”.
And One Kitty Paw for the Preaching.

Overall, it’s sad and lil shocking. Every developed country has preyed on the poor, uneducated immigrants coming into their country; and of not the country itself, then certainly the people and businesses already there. And as of 2018, sadly it's still happening, everywhere.

But getting back to this mini-series, while I can’t pin an actual title to it, it’s definitely not a “thriller”.

Sitting a negative Kitty Paw, I don’t recommend this mini-series.

csk

  • “too many coincidences of characters” to explain this I have to give a spoiler away. So one spoiler is that MI5 agent that they call to simply sit in an interview, actually happens to be the very MI5 who knows everything about “Syrian” and the murder. Wow! What’s the coincidence on that one!

Just curious, why did you sit through a whole series that you didn't like. I would've had to stop after the 1st or 2nd show. Unless you just were hoping it would get better.

Two reasons:

One, I was hoping it would get better.

Two: That everything would tie together. Like, not to spoil anything but . . . the woman who ordered the pizza is the ex-wife of the MP, and does mj. So, I thought maybe she was in on it, because she needed money and that would tie her into the murder. Or the person who arranged for the murder was setting up her MP ex husband thru her drug use or something.

And perhaps, I was pulling for a clever little plot twist that I never saw coming.

I agree with this. After it started sucking for me I st k with it because I e wat he’d other shows that were similar but pulled it together at the end. This one just fizzled very unsatisfactorily.

Thinking I might have missed something, I searched online to see if I could find the meaning. Apparently the writers weren’t interested in solving their own mystery ( they didn’t).
