I will be honest. I really, really, really . . . truly, did not think this was a wise idea. A horror tv show???

But despite my initial hesitation I sat down to check it out.

The story begins with a teenage female victim who is of course all alone in a stunning house most Americans could never afford, and she is of course, in a bathing suit. And then the phone rings . . . and thus begins the first murder scene perpetrated by the mask made famous from the Scream movies.

Thoughts:
Overall this is actually a decent show, even for high school “kids”. There are some blood and guts. There are plot twists and everyone at some point in time is a suspect. I actually found myself enjoying it.

They of course have similar characters from the movies: the horror fan concierge, the heroine beauty, the jock boyfriend, the snooty rich bff (who is probably too for the part) and clueless adults who aren’t really piecing things together quick enough.

I will say however, I figured it out pretty quickly after one dead “horror film” give away. I knew it was far fetched but when it all came together, I gave myself a lil kudos tap on the shoulder. (I am not a horror film fan for nothing.)

I will say since I knew who the killer was, the reveal kinda fell flat. But there were questions left behind, and for plot/storyline reasons, I will refrain from commenting further. Although, the final scene I did not expect but it does make sense.

But this is season 1.

Season 2 naturally introduces us to new characters, both likeable and unlikeable. Characters who survived the first season are all recovering and living with the moniker “The Lakewood 6”.

The plot of Season 2 thickens, But for me, season two just didn’t have the same tense suspense. In fact, I would argue it kinda becomes very obvious who is doing what. But interestingly enough, they have mixed up the reveal. I have not seen the final episode, which is curious and again for plot/storyline reasons, I will refrain from commenting further.

Eitherway, if the final episode ties things together and turns this less than suspenseful series around, I will post about it.

So, for now, season 1, awesome. Season 2, not as much.

There will be a third season. I have not checked the list of characters, because I haven’t seen the final episode. But then they move the Scream franchise to another place. IDK.

I will say, if it follows the rule of trilogy, 1 is great, 2 sucks, 3 is good or better.

As I said before, some blood and guts. And since it's set in high school, kids do get "together", though "not too" much is shown, which isn't saying much considering one really inappropriate relationship. But it MTV and it panders to the teenagers and young adult.

Prior to his sad death, Wes Craven, who director the original Scream movie, produced both seasons.
