Sunny, bright-blue sky, crisp ; perfect weather to grab 2 drive-by boxes in Kent, Ct. and check the falls at Bulls Bridge. Wrong. Both Schaghticoke Rd. and River Rd. "closed for winter." Town main road closed too due to ice flows. We did get some beautiful pictures of them, but no found boxes for us today. Will try again in the spring.

Yes, Route 7 in Kent’s been closed for weeks due to flooding due to ice jams on the Housatonic. CT River has ice jams too but hoping that the Coast Guard ships can break through.

Hmm. Sounds like my day but we went to Haddam to see the Connecticut river. Couldn't get near Eagle Landing at the bridge but we took a nice walk up river at the meadows.

where would be a good place to go look at the ice on the rivers? boxes would be a bonus... :D

Last weekend, SWMBO and I stopped at Haddam Meadows and had a great up close, and personal view of the ice jam. It was bank to bank as far as the eye could see.
I'd recommend a trip to the meadows this weekend. With the warming temps, and rain forecast on Sunday, the jams may be breaking up.

Was it because the swing bridge was open (and closed to traffic)? If you're trying to get to Eagle Landing (and my Cheers to the Coast Guard Cutters boxes), and the bridge is shut down you might be able to park up above if traffic allows and walk down. Follow the clues in reverse. You might not be able to get onto Rt 82, but if you can park at the little shopping center at the corner of Rt 82 and Rt 154, you can walk down 82 to the DEEP gate at the 'back door' of the park.

There's not much left of the ice jam. If you want to see it, go really soon. Haddam Meadows State Park may work.

I had the clues for that one and could actually see the box, but there were so many people around (it was a Sunday) I didn't retrieve it. Definitely a neat spot, DEEP overlook platform.

Update, the Coast Guard has cleared a channel through the entire ice dam. There is probably still a lot of a ice along the shore at Haddam Meadows State Park.

I learned today that the bridge had a problem and was closed to traffic for quite a while. Traffic was backed up before getting to the Rd 82 intersection. I thought about your back door solution but other circumstances prevented trying. At Haddam Meadows the ice jam is very impressive but you can see an open channel across the river so it's probably good to go soon.

Traffic was going across the bridge, although it had a one lane alternate traffic in the middle as they worked on the bridge. The ice was flowing impressively downstream.
