So close, but not a find

I think most of us have had the experience of almost, but not quite, finding a box. Maybe the box was frozen in place, or engulfed by a growing tree, or stuck somewhere out of arm's reach. I encountered a new scenario today when I went back to find a box that had initially been muggled before it had any finders. The planter recarved and put it in the same place, so I thought it would be easy to once again reach under the gap between the sidewalk and the surrounding dirt. I did not anticipate finding a mound of still wet cement that had apparently very recently been placed to seal the gap--and the letterbox! Darn!

Still wet, you say? So what's the problem?

Well, I did try displacing the cement with a stick and poking around while trying not to look too obvious in a public space, but it became evident that it was pretty hopeless. And I did put the cement back in place. More or less. With the stick.

This spring I was out and almost found a box. I was with a friend and she looked down at her shoes and said, "Is that a tick?"
I looked down at mine and said, "No, it's a million!"
I didn't know she could run so fast! After dealing with all the ticks we could find before getting in the car (I put my shoes in the trunk and drove home in my socks), we called it day. Still need to go back one of these days...

Okay, that is so much worse than my story. I'm fine, but I feel sorry for the planter of the one I was looking for.

I like your story, though.

yeah, this spring was one for the books in terms of ticks.

One day, after our first series, I stopped counting after pulling off 40 ticks from my two labs.
Needless to say, boxing was done for the day.

Funny, haven't seen a single tick on them in the last couple months, however.

They mostly go dormant for a couple of months in the summer.
