I think quite a few of us are afflicted by this same subject!

My husband was able to get the day off on Monday. And he suddenly decides yesterday that he wants to take a road trip to see totality. We live in FL. Believe it or not, I was able to find a hotel room just outside of Greenville, SC. We'll be leaving at about 4:00 am Monday morning.

You'll have to tell us all about the trip, especially about the traffic. I live in the P.O.T., so I don't have to travel. I just can't imagine what the nearby towns will be like with all the people supposedly flocking in to see the eclipse. I can't wait!

You were absolutely right about seeing totality. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. My husband was completely floored. I expect we'll try to see the next one too.

Feeling bit envious of those who experienced totality. We had 92% coverage, which was still very cool (and I am amazed at how bright the sun still is with that much coverage!!)

I am in the path of totality for the 2024 eclipse though!

I've definitely joined the latter!! TN eclipse was spectacular!

I KNEW I should have tagged along. I'd've been quiet as a mouse in the back seat. You'd never have known I was there, I swear!

I learned some stuff about viewing, though, that I can hopefully use in 2024.

I wrote an email to the folks who are reopening the summer camp I worked at up in Maine many years ago, and suggested that they should offer, "eclipse weekends," so folks could come and stay for the eclipse. They're perfectly positioned for it. It'd be extra income for them, and the stargazing was great out there when I was there, so I'm thinking the sun/moongazing would be, too!

Maybe they could get teachers from the local colleges to come out and do astronomy workshops on Saturday and Sunday, leading up to the eclipse on Monday. It could be really awesome!

Well, after Monday, I want to be an umbraphile. My husband and I drove over 800 miles to get to South Carolina to see the eclipse. I woke at 4:30am on the 21st to check the latest weather, found out that our site was increasing it's chances of rain, and we got up and drove to places that had better outlooks for the weather at 2:40. At noon some clouds rolled in, we saw the first half of the eclipse with wispy clouds moving across the sun for two hours. It was lovely. At 2:20 the clouds stopped moving and we had clear skies for the next hour. Couldn't have been better. We are hooked and will probably go to Texas in 2024 even though totality will be within three hours of our CT home. The weather in April is not good, so I want better odds for clear skies and open expanse for my next viewing.
oh, and eclipse people are the most excited, welcoming, and friendly people I've ever met. Even a little nicer then deadheads in the 70's.
