Has anyone gone to dubai recently? I Just Applied For My Sons Passport To GO To The UAE this may. Now I'm told he has to wait 6 months thus missing this opportunity. Does anyone know if this is a fact for US passports? We are not world travelers so I'm a bit of a dummy

Do you mean his passport (from our State Dept) or his visa (from UAE)? Six months seems like a super long time even for a new passport, but you can pay extra and get expedited service on the US end. I renewed my passport a couple of years ago, didn't pay for the expedited service, and I had my new passport within six weeks.

We obtained ours (one renewal, one new) from our State Department, utilizing the services of our local US Post Office in about a month in 2012. Things may have changed however I would not delay if looking at May.

You can contact the local state department and locate an office. Go there in person and you can usually get the passport in a day. You'll need evidence of impending travel though.

There have been many many news stories about how 2016 is the tenth anniversary of needing a passport to travel to Mexico and Canada. Because of the volume of renewals, the State Dept has been warning about longer than usual delays.

I have to say though, applying only two months before travel was already cutting it close.

You can expedite the process. In Michigan, people will drive to Chicago to the passport office. Not sure where you live or if there is one closer. You have to pay an extra $60 and I think you can get it in a few weeks

Update: I finally got a hold of someone from the passport federal agency. He's good to go in May! Yay! The wording was confusing but the passport can't expire in six months. I now hope he receives it within 6 weeks!

We just got passports renewed and it took 4 weeks. Not sure if it takes longer for a new passport.

Wow, never heard of a passport in a day, but I guess there has to be a way, if not more expensive....
