Premium Member Letterbox Restrictions

Can you set a restriction on letterboxes to only be visible to Premium Members? I know that you can restrict it to AQ members and by P or F counts. I'm contemplating becoming a Premium Member and was wondering if access to more letterboxes is a perk. Thanks.

Yes, you can restrict your plants to premium members. I think you should definitely become a premium member. The hat alone is worth it!

According to the site founder, there are very, very few letterboxes restricted to Premium Members only (unlike geocaching.) That being said, lately I've been planting more of my letterboxes lately with the Premium restriction. Out here in New Mexico most of the active letterboxers are already premium members anyway.

Personally, I'd feel uncomfortable using Premium Member restrictions. People shouldn't have to pay to play (IMO).

I don't have that problem. Heck, my Donald Trump letterbox requires you to send me $1,000,000 to get the clues. (Hurry, and you can be first finder)

I don't think a lot of people restrict by premium members. Letterboxers tend to brag about the "free" aspect of letterboxing. Which I have no clue what they're talking about, since I have spent a ton of money on pink stuff, ink pads, art supplies for ltcs, event hosting and helping, hotel rooms, fancy plastic boxes, camouflage duct tape, food, gas money, donations to events, etc. The premium membership is a drop in the bucket for me. I tried to go without it, and lasted one week. My favorite perk is to be able to view finds to other people's letterboxes. But mainly I do it, because it supports the website we rely on.

Some may need to ask their dad for a small loan to find your letterbox.

I have not had one in about a year.... or maybe more. I have thought about getting one again. Nearly purchased one last month, but a weird quirk stopped me from getting it.

Supporting this site and recording unlisted finds are the drawing cards for me.

Now that's making me wonder if there are any boxes hiding right in front of me.

At one time, I thought that too. However, I would wager that there are less than 1% of traditional plants with a premium restriction across the U.S.

I know there are many boxes hidden right in front of me as I live in the heart of Eevil and Mapsurfer territory...
I try not to think about it. If I did I would just curl up in a ball in the corner and cry.

That being said, you can also go to the library to read newspapers and magazines for free.
You just don't get to (shouldn't) do the puzzles published, or rip out an interesting article.

For me, the most important thing about being a PM is supporting Ryan so he'll continue to maintain AQ.

I agree! And since I bought the 100-year membership, I fully expect Ryan to stay in tip-top physical and mental shape so he can keep maintaining AQ for at least that long!

I expect the same of everyone who signs up for the 100-year membership—to make full use of AQ for the next 100 years! =)

Wading in late here but I like the PM perk of recording boxes not listed on AQ. Dartmoor is a prime example of an area littered with boxes that are not listed here. I've also had huge success contacting boxers globally and getting access to their listings so I like to record the boxes I find internationally that aren't on AQ too!

And one day you'll have them all. Even that one in Antarctica.

I believe you, but I just tried a few searches and didn't come up with it. Would you please post how you were able to do the search and the results.

Thanks.

If you want some that aren't "in the woods" I can plant in a marsh for you. ;-)

A simple search for "Antarctica" should get the job done, but make sure that you haven't selected to hide old last finds (it has none!) or to ignore abandoned boxes (the owner hasn't logged in since 2008) because those will cause it not to show up.

I just did what Ryan suggested--popped up a simple search, typed in "Antarctica," and got this.

This was exactly the problem. I unchecked those boxes and it showed up.

I'm not very likely to get anywhere near it though. It will be on my "really like to get there" list.
