To plant, or not to plant? That is the question!

I'm currently working on a series of boxes and am on the hunt for locations to plant these boxes. I have a perfect place in mind for the next box. It is a place that's very dear to me, and fits with the theme of the series perfectly. The problem is, this location is notorious for late night teenage high-jinks and vandalism. Do I risk it? WWYD?

1. Do you have a REALLY good hiding spot chosen that will likely miss late night accidental finders?
2. Are you willing to recarve and replant if the box goes missing?

If you can answer yes to both those questions, plant where you want. :)

I wouldn't. It sounds like it will certainly go missing quickly. In addition, if the area has sketchy individuals hanging around, many LB'ers may choose to avoid going into that area. Even though you love the spot, another safer spot for your box would be my suggestion. Good luck!

Don't do it.

But you may be able to recommend seeing the favorite spot, but plant a block away, or at some other less-frequented area, nearby.

No, I would not, unless you can camouflage that bad boy really, really well! I planted one in a spot like that and it only lasted a few months.

If you'd be really upset if the box went missing, then I'd recommend that you plant elsewhere.

I don't think I would plant there either, instead close by. But if you really want to plant there you could always try a hidden in plain sight like a sprinkler head or electrical box. A magnetic key box can work wonders as well. I have one in a rusty old truck in a VERY busy intersection in Key West that has been there for YEARS. Once I thought it went missing and I replanted with an actual carve (was one of my first plants so it was a foam stamp, the shame!!) just to find that the original was tucked too high for those finders who thought it was missing. I had even confirmed the loss too, it was hidden that well!!

That was a fun one, Raven. Hubby and I had to be pretty sneaky to get it!

And that truck is quite the hide! Best part of planting in super busy areas like that, at least in my experience is people are so wrapped up in the busy-ness of it all they usually don't notice. Unless you're me and two guys driving by in a newer truck holler at you as you're bending over "lookin for the letterbox?" No idea who they were, either.
