I attempted today to add another friend. After four attempts, here I am. The first two tries I used only the member number, the third try only the member's name in the same form that one uses to enter a member number, and the fourth time I entered both number and name. It didn't work. Thinking maybe the program needs a "reset" to make the add work I refreshed a couple of times and once logged out and back in. The individual I was trying to add was still not on my friend's list.

I've noticed this in the past as well. Sometimes it takes several tries before a new friend add takes place. So I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong but it looks too simple for that to be the case.

Or maybe I just need to slim down my list of friends (which I've been doing a few at a time).

I'd try logging into your account and giving it a try myself since I haven't seen this problem on my account, but I'm not sure which friend you're trying to add or to which group.

I will say--when I did try adding a friend to my own account, at first I thought you might have been onto a bug because the person wasn't on the friends page after adding them! Then I realized it was just because they were on a different trail than me and it was displaying the map with the trail I was on. When you look at a specific map, it doesn't list everyone in the group--just those that are on the same trail as you.

Could that have been the problem? You were just looking at the wrong map? =)

If you change the view to "members only" or "awards," it'll show you all of the members in the group. Otherwise, you'll only see members on the same trail (or stage, if you're looking at the stage view) as you.

I don't think that's the case. I selected the trail map for the Wonderland Trail and viewed my neighbors. When I sorted by total distance I tried adding the number 4 person on the neighbor list as a friend. You'll notice I'm number two on that list. After all those tries that person never appeared on my friends list for the trail or on the members only friends list.

I looked around the settings page to see if one can opt out of becoming a friend and I saw nothing so I'm figuring I did something wrong or there is a glych.

Email some details about who you're trying to add and to which group you're trying to add them. (Maybe you added the person to the wrong group?)

Nevermind! I see where I made my mistake. I was in the neighbors group when I tried adding a "Friend" to it that was already there - although this person was not a "Friend" yet.

Once I went to the "Friends" group I was able to add this person without difficulty.

Lesson learned for me: If I stumble upon someone among my neighbors that I want in my friends group. Change the group to friends first than add the person.

As I get older I find I make more and more mistakes like this.
