New idea - Virtual puzzle LTC

Some of you may have heard that Virtual Letterboxes are no longer available on the AQ site as of January 1 2015. I moved my virtuals over to a blog. It has had a small amount of interest but generally there's not much happening. And in blog format, I have no idea who's trying them unless people leave a comment. And it isn't possible to set up a list for people so they have a nice handy tally of what they've solved.

One finder asked me about maybe turning the idea into LTCs. People solve my puzzle and I give them an LTC. Unfortunately it could be expensive for me and a little too one-sided. So I got to thinking, how about I trade, a solved Virtual Letterbox hand-carved stamp image for a solved Virtual Letterbox hand-carved stamp image.

I post my Virtual Puzzle LTC on AQ. The person who solves it then posts their Virtual Puzzle LTC so I get a chance to solve their puzzle (and other people who want to swap LTCs after solving a Virtual can solve it too). Then once we've solved virtual puzzles we exchange LTCs of the virtual puzzle reward. The passkey will have to be on a blog - I use wordpress.com, where I can password protect the page with the stamp image.

Does it make sense? Is there any interest? I'm just fleshing out the idea. Would Ryan approve? Are there any pitfalls to this idea? Are there ways to improve this idea?

Why couldn't you do it as a tracker. That way anyone who was interested would just sign up and you would know how many you had working on it. You could even put a date due. I know that I'm not able to respond on blogs for some reason. It always says it can't verify my identity or some such thing. I guess it would be more like a ring. I've never done one and my brain is working slow.

This sounds like a PT with a password, only as an LTC.

I'd hate to see the LTC tracker page full of these "Virtual" swaps. Dozens of no end date 1-for-1 swaps!

I wonder if this could be set up as a normal LTC swap with each person making their card, then solving as many as they can before mailing in their cards along with the answers. The host would then sort the cards, only giving them out to people who solved the puzzle.

I'm starting to like the idea of a puzzle LTC swap! Is anyone interested?

Are you volunteering to host? The last time I did a postal was 2007. I've never done an LTC swap. So it would be great to join a swap with an experienced hostess, and get some experience myself before hosting my own.

Sure, I'll host if there is going to be interest. Give me a few days to figure out how this would work and write something up.

Thanks RIclimber. I've added my name to the list. 6 signees already! I've started my new puzzle and have my hand carved stamp picked out to go with the theme. Really excited to participate.

FYI, I'm posting my virtuals as LTCs for one-on-one virtual puzzling swapping. See my list of current LTCs for more information. I hope to get them all listed eventually - there's over 50.
