Hey all you Birmingham area boxers

There seem to be a fair number of us in the area now, and I thought it might be fun to try to get together. I'm NOT talking about an event - just meet in a park for a bring-your-own picnic or in a local restaurant.

I know some of us plan to go to "The One In Tennessee" - but I also know there are some active boxers in the area who won't be there. So - if you're interested, just shoot me an e-mail and we can work on finding a good date and location (I'm thinking near the end of March, first of April)

You know, I would be willing to bet that if you picked a date and posted it on the event page that as many from TN will be there as will be here from AL. I would come.

Oh my! A snowball!!!! If some of our neighboring state letterboxers are interested, I'm willing to try to do an acutal event w/ boxes IF I can enlist the help of some of my local boxing friends to help out - so let me know if you are willing to volunteer some time and boxes and we'll get rolling!

We had this same discussion recently on the South Carolina board. I wanted to plan a small get together for a few local families, and anyone who was interested was invited. Some wanted me to list it as an event, but I wanted to keep it smaller. I'm not anti-people or anything, it's just what I had planned. We had a great time. There were four families that met at the food court of the local mall. It was a size I could handle, and it wasn't overwhelming. Now when we go to our next gathering, I will already have exchanged with a good number of people at our mini-meet, so I won't be so overwhelmed. What I'm trying to say is, if you want a small gathering of a few families, etc. plan that on the message boards. If you want to do a full fledged event, do that. Just don't do it to please everyone else if it's not what you want. If they want to plan a big Birmingham event, they can! And I will try my best to be there myself!

The spouse and I had been talking about doing a full blown event - but wanted to wait a while. We will be attending our first next month and didn't want to plan one when we'd never even been to one. I think we may end up doing a little of both. I'd like to do a small meet and greet soon, and then maybe a big event in the early to mid summer. Letterboxing is really growing here and we'd love to encourage that by having an event, but I want to wait until I know a little more about what to do.

Thanks so much for your words of encouragement. I'm going to do my best not to get buried alive by my little snowball! We'll expect to see you when we do get around to having a real event!

Hey Star Birthday Girl of the Galaxy!
See how the stars sparkle and the planets twinkle? That's because they are all celebrating this most GLORIOUS of days -- the day when you arrived on this particular little orb! Even Pluto has put on her party dress (holding no hard feelings at being kicked out of the Solar System!) Yes, this remarkably non-participatory group will be at any Birmingham event. The One Who Has Gone a Bit Overboard will even make stamps and hide new boxes for your Event -- which is different from the tiny gathering (though how he can possibly hide even MORE sort of makes my head spin to think about, and of course I am saying he will when he is at work and I have not talked to him specifically about THIS. . .)
Let us know what you want us to do, and PLEASE restrain yourself and keep the first thing small. The Event can come in its own good time.

Why thank you so much! It was The Best Birthday Ever - thanks in large part to the more subdued member of Wild Dreams (would that make her Tame Dreams.... no, don't think so)

I'm thinking small gathering sometime in the next few weeks, big todo in the fall. I'll be sure to keep you updated.

Now excuse me, I must go endure sugar-withdrawl from all my birthday celebrating of the past few days. I fear that I have expanded to the size of an actual galaxy!
