Multiples or series on a postal tracker?

OK, maybe this has come up before, but we have not had the problem before. We are trying to add both boxes in a series to an AQ tracker and it is only allowing one to be added! When we click the 'Add to Tracker' button, it pops up our list of tracker sign-ups, but when we choose the one we want, that we already have 1 box in, we get a message "Cannot be added to this tracker" and the screen goes back to the list of our tracker sign-ups. Help!?!

I think I read it somewhere here before, that unless you are the owner of the ring, you can only add one box. So you would want to contact the owner of your PLB ring and ask them to add the other boxes for you:)

What I do is make 2 boxes like a series. When I'm creating my box, and it asks the # of boxes, I put 2 (or how many ever), and then go from there. I did this on my part of the Monty Python Ring...

Hope that helps!

As Team MTpt101 said, if you are not the owner of the tracker, you can only add one box. You can ask the owner to add the second box for you. Or you can delete what you put in and create a series as Jenni P McD suggested.

Yes, that is what we did (and have done before), but this 'Add to Tracker' feature is new and seems unfriendly toward adding more than one...

Here is the series we're trying to add to the Collectibles ring:

Thanks all! Hopefully Ryan will have a brilliant answer!

The other answers were perfectly brilliant. AQ expects a ring to mean that each participant contributes one postal box to the ring, so it won't let people contribute more than one box to the ring EXCEPT the owner who is "above" the normal rules and can add multiple boxes by one person. =) Anything allowed outside of the "normal" expectations is up to the owner to decide.

Contact the owner to add a second box.

I've gotten this question before. For you ring people out there, would you prefer that AQ not be so strict when it comes to listing boxes for a ring? Because I change the code so it'll allow anyone to add as many boxes as they want to a tracker. (Just like the "other" option does, in fact.) I was just trying to enforce "expected" ring behavior, but if you all prefer not having that enforced, that's not a problem for me. =)

As an owner and a participant, I would personally like to see each participant be allowed two box entries.

Thanks so much for asking,

Is there a way to make that one of the pulldown choices for the ringleader when creating the tracker? Because, at times, you may WANT to restrict people to one box only...especially if size, postage or time is of the essence in the ring.

Personally, I kind of like the way I do it. That way I can remember what boxes go where...lol

Just thinking out loud. :-)

Yes, it's called the "Other" type. ;o)

In most cases, it seems like there's someone who's providing a box to cover for someone else that is (or was?) signed up for the ring. That might be a workable request. I'm thinking I should still limit the *total* number of boxes in a ring to the number of participants in the ring, though so people don't get more than they bargained for while signing up. (Of course, the owner would still be able to add a few extra boxes, if necessary.)

Do other postal people like this idea? Yea or nay?

As the 'owner' of numerous trackers I've had problems doing this as well... and got the same pop-up messages. I just thought I was having a mental breakdown... and moved on. Baby Cheyenne is moving around as 1 when I wanted it to be two.... oh well.

As someone who has lead a few rings, I would prefer that people only be allowed to add one box to the tracker. If for some reason they feel the need to add a bonus box to the tracker, I don't have a problem doing it for them. But for the most part, I don't like to see bonus boxes listed on the tracker - I would prefer to be surprised when I get the postal.

Yes, sometimes the bonus is intended to be a mystery or surprise, but then how do you find it to log it? Just have the finders search by name of box?

We stil llike the idea of having the ring leader choose whether or not multiple boxes will be allowed on the tracker for a ring that they are leading.

I'm fine with allowing people to add extra or leaving it up to the ring's leader. I have no problem adding more boxes for people if the need me to.

Multiple boxes from one person in a tracker gets confusing when filling in the found grids. It is much simpler if the participant number and box numbers match. If you must add then put them at the bottom of the list. I prefer for people to simply add the stamp as a bonus surprise that can be logged in seperately.
