I think this is a pretty creepy thing to find on the trails! Yikes!

Saw something just like that only it was a deer skeleton, while scouting out a new planting trail, I was thinking it would make a great hiding place for a bonus box! ;)

Acctually, I was not upsetover the dog, it was the owner I had issue with.

And the picture I am assuming is a deer based on its size.

I went to find a box in the middle of nowhere TN a couple of years ago. DH (the cop with every experience possible ever) went out first to check out the ditch we had to cross to see if it was "safe". He came back all upset refusing to continue because he found human remains. So, rationally with my medical background (and refusal to miss a box this close!) I went in for my own evaluation. As I got there, I realized it was just a dog and went back to laugh at him. After retrieving the box to bring with me of course!! Big baby.

I have a geocaching friend in Bangor who found a moose skull in the woods while geocaching. He kept it and made it into a Travel Bug (trackable like HH/Fleas/Cooties). He puts it on the tire on the back of his Jeep at events for cachers to "discover".

Surprisingly I have never ran across skeletons (though I found deer hair which was weird). I did however find a piece of a jawbone in the ocean in FL while snorkeling for shells. Based upon the size I believe it was from a shark.

Even as intact as it is... and it is picked pretty clean... I have a guess it would start to fall apart if dragged out. It is just off a pretty wide path, in a tiny clearing. You could probably get a wagon out to retrive it, but even so it would need care, as it is bigger than most kids wagons.... Wheelbarrow might get it out, but it would still be hanging off I think.

I think my son would have wanted to play with it too, so I'm glad he wasn't with me. It was a thing of beauty and I think it would have been educational for him to see. But I would want other hikers who were paying attention to their surroundings to get to see it too.

We sloshed thru mud just to realize it was a wild hog wallow. Same day we found the head to toe skeleton of a cow. Well, pile of bones but every bone. We grabbed a big bone and took it Edwin Warner Nature Center for Trade Station. Bones bring the biggest points!!

Ya know, judging by the relative packages being covered (and we are), it makes more sense for men to be skirted and women to be pantsed. (boy, that looks weird, wired, weird, whatever)

So I did. Darn it. Sorry. Too lazy to move it, though.

In the past couple of weeks we encountered a deer skeleton, a rotting raccoon,
and a dog/coyote newly dead.
The deer we think was hunted because the head was missing, even though it was a nature area
where hunting is supposedly prohibited.

A wild animal like a coyote could have ripped the head off. Or, even if its death was from another aninal, someone finding it could gave taken the head.

I like to hope for the good in others when I hear a story.....
