Art Media tracker series
Board: LTC: Trades and Trackers

I posted a new swap...it's going to be a series of swaps. I really enjoyed the art study swaps that we did because I learned how to use my products in a different way. I also was amazed at how others created their cards in the restricted art movement. The cards were so interesting and unusual...different ideas than what I had. It was great!

I don't think this series will be as difficult as our previous but you can get as creative and difficult as you want. You can watch youtube videos, search blogs, or just play!!

Let me know if you have questions...or comments??

You might want to add what you've learned to the help wiki.

I agree with most of that -- except setting Ryan up as arbiter. Leans too far toward Groundspeak for my tastes.

Thank you so much for making me aware of this show! I don’t really keep track of new shows on Netflix, and I would have missed it. I’ve only watched a few episodes, but I am quite enjoying it!

I just made a postcard for a ring exchange. I set it up as an “Other” type box but now I can’t add it to the tracker. I should have made it an LTC. I was about to delete it when I realized that I’d lose my AQ number which is already written on the cards. Is it too late to change it to an LTC, and if not, how do I do that?

You get one of the admins to fix it. AQ-mail Green Tortuga and ask if he will fix it for you.

My Letterboxers Egg Hunt Event is coming up, are there any animation-related stamps in that haul?

Actually, I could probably use the whole haul. Sending my details in private message.

Dawnkey and I were talking about the tools and tricks of letterboxing and using the Atlas Quest site. We thought it would be interesting to open up a discussion about what we've found helpful and hope that some of our Michigan friends might both learn from us but also teach the rest of us some of their ways of using the website.

So here goes...

CUSTOM LOCATIONS - I use this constantly! Once I know where I am going, I search the area. For example, when I do a search of Indianapolis, Indiana, letterboxes come up in a variety of ways and I adapt them to make finding them easier.

When [this box] comes up with the address but not the name of the place, I "customize" it by adding the name of the place along with the address.

When [this box] comes up with the name of the place but not an exact address, I google the address then "customize" it by adding the address along with the name of the place.

But the most helpful is when [a box like this] comes up and I need to find both the address and the name of the location. When I "customize" it, my future searches will put it where it belongs and I don't miss it when I'm at the location.

Does anyone else use CUSTOM ADDRESSES regularly?

Spoiler tags?

I’m wondering if it’s possible to turn on or enable spoiler tags on this site?

I stumbled across a cool artist I thought would be fun to share with the LTCer in a forum post but as I scrolled through her work, I noticed there were a couple of paintings/drawings that showed hints of boobies (albeit cartoony and manga-ish). Nothing that should offend but it would have been nice to spoiler it thus adhering to the *”2 click rule” if I decided to put a google search link to her stuff.

Also I notice that several posters like to discuss movies and TV shows. Spoiler tags would allow one to discuss the show in a general way but also have some plot elements hidden so as not to spoil it for those yet to see it.

Just a suggestion.

That's an interesting idea.... I'd never heard of a spoiler tag before. How do you imagine it would look? I googled for information about spoiler tags and see a couple of different ways it might work, but how have you seen it used in the past?

They are used on several other message boards I visit occasionally. I believe they are used like this:

See post 22 in this thread for an example:

Goodreads is one site that uses spoiler tags. On Goodreads people post reviews of books they've read, so any spoilers in their reviews can be placed between spoiler tags.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling, Angel Winks. I'm also a huge fan of the custom address feature.

We might want to mention at this point that custom addresses are a perk of an AQ premium membership. There are many perks and you can find them here if you're not already a premium member. (Disclaimer: Ryan is *not* paying us to advertise.) :)

One of my favorite premium features is custom menus. To use:

Go to My Page/Preferences. Select Custom Menu from the bar of options across the top of the page. It's just to the left of Premium Hat.

Under Add Menu Item on the left choose the submenu you'd like your item listed under (Home, Toolbox, Boards, People, etc.), type the way you want the item listed in the title box, and then add the link in the URL box. Once you click the Add Item button you'll be able to access your menu item from the menus that run across the top of AQ pages.

You can add links for AQ pages or external links like LbNA and Rumkin. I like to add links for events I'm signed up for under the People tab. It makes it easy to access the event page before and after event, and then I just remove it from the menu once all my finds are recorded.

I definitely do. And given your examples, I will often customize the Crown Hill Cemetery address to the 32nd Street address (Old Gates entrance). It’s the closest to my sweet daddy’s resting place. If anyone comes without a map, it is easily available at the 38th street entrance (offices).

It is almost the end of 2018 - the Illinois Bicentennial year. Please do continue to plant letterboxes for the Illinois Bicentennial. We were challenged to plant 200 boxes and to date we have 196 boxes planted (and more to come) since August of 2018. I thank everyone who signed up for the virtual event and I thank everyone who has planted 1, 2, 3, etc. boxes for this event. Everybody wins in a virtual event - the planters, the finders, individuals, everyone! We reached 22 states so people can find these connections to the Illinois Bicentennial all over the country.

Thank you for helping us to celebrate by planting boxes. To those of you who signed up and still are awaiting a day to plant, please do so and let me know. I will add them to the list whenever they get planted.

Thanks, Topcollector. That's what Dawnkey and I, and others, hopefully, have in mind. We will try to keep the conversation going over the winter months when there is less letterboxing to do.

And, we hope, anyone will feel free to jump into the conversation.

My last active box in Manhattan has gone to Letterboxing Heaven. Since moving to Westchester I stopped planting down there. It lasted so long for an urban plant under a mailbox. And they actually got down and looked underneath. So. I am officially sad. :(

I use custom addresses constantly as well. But I didn't know I could add the name of the address i.e., "Jo's Pool Hall" as well as the street address. Can't wait to try this out.

BBStacker,

The way I have found that works best is to first STORE the custom address. Once that is in, then I edit the custom address with the pencil icon. I add the name of the park or cemetery or pool hall :) or whatever and save it again. It should show up with both the name and the address! Love it.

Also, FYI, you can shorten long URLs here: https://tinyurl.com

I have to laugh. I thought the same thing, except I was thinking that everything after the ? in the URL is just for tracking purposes and could safely be removed shortening the URL by probably 75%. Not as tiny as tinyurl, though!

But I'm amused that we can have the same thought and come up with two completely different solutions!

So I've been playing around with simple ways to make this work, and I have a working version... more-or-less. You might have to click the "refresh" button on your browser to see it work if your browser is using a cached version of the CSS.
