That sound like a Dr. Seuss title

The Seal with an Eel Up It's Nose

I'm sorry to say
I'm sad to report
That I found a seal
In a terrible sort

The seals they do probe
They are looking for food
The eels try to escape
Ending up the seal's snood

The seals go back to the beach
Go up on the land
And begin to wheeze
Up on the sand

The problem you see,
Had by these seals
Are these things up their nose
These thing are small eels

Then the humans do see
That seal and his wheeze
They do want to help
The seal they will please

After a look, a real close exam
The eel was removed
by the Hawaiian Monk Seal Research Program

This latest nose eel was also removed,
With a “slow, steady pull.”
The seal was unharmed;
But at least the eel was all whole

The seal was released
Back out on the beach
But if you're an eel
No noses! We beseech

Footnote: "Hawaiian Monk Seal Research Program" just doesn't work in the meter of Seuss, but I did what I could.

I have to laugh. I thought the same thing, except I was thinking that everything after the ? in the URL is just for tracking purposes and could safely be removed shortening the URL by probably 75%. Not as tiny as tinyurl, though!

But I'm amused that we can have the same thought and come up with two completely different solutions!

Anyone going to GenCon 2019?

It's my year to go to Gen Con with my husband. Every year that I go I carve a stamp. I'm always hoping one or two boxing fiends will be there. Currently I have two from previous years, and I'm wondering if I should carve one for this year. But if no one's going except me should I?

It doesn't matter if you're the only one going; if you like carving, and if you want to carve one, then you should carve one. If any of your fiends show up, you're prepared. If they don't show, well, you've got a new stamp to use, and you had the fun of carving it. Plus, maybe you'll meet someone new and need to stamp something.

These fiends of yours - into letterboxing in a major way, are they ? ;^)

Hugs to you, and enjoy yourself while carving and attending. :^)

These tend to have dates carved in. Is that usually a problem?

Sure, carve a date, why not? New stamp, new date. :^)

I’m not sure where else to post this. I figured Miscellaneous Oddities would do.
I’m watching reports on the new British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.
Apparently he is known for his gaffes.
One quote of his is, “Muslim women who wear burkas look like letterboxers and bank robbers.”

I'm truly surprised that he was picked, especially after his stint as mayor of London.

After seeing this mornings news clip it looks like Johnson and Trump are brothers from different mothers.

I'm thinking he said LetterboxES as in 'mail a letter'. Still stupid but it makes more sense. :)

I get a lot of calendars in the mail, but I have a 2019-2020 "Jewish Art Calendar" if anyone is interested. I hate to throw it away, I'm becoming more and more like my mother every day. AQ me and I'll mail it to you.

You can take the pages and make envelopes out of them. I've done that for years.

Back when I had to send a car payment to a bank in Cincinnati, I would send it in envelopes I made from car ads in magazines.

They might not have noticed the tie-in but it always made me smile! =)

I've made envelopes out of calendars and magazine ads, too! But that was 20 or so years ago when I sent letters. My daughter was the envy of her college friends who were always curious about what envelope her mom had sent that week.

I was looking on this web site to see if I found another item like that. So far I have not. The page may give you some ideas, though.

I'm going to just guess, so don't take this as "the answer".
I think it is a broken latch from an old style latch closure, similar to a thumb latch, but perhaps the type that locks a door shut. It would have been on a barn door, or half door. The narrow end is where I think the rest has broken off.

(Seriously though, I know another message board that might know... stay tuned)
