Alderman Library inventory
Board: State: Virginia

Thread Board (disabled)
As a UVa alum, an article popped up in my facebook feed about an inventory they're doing at UVa's Alderman Library. I glanced at the lead picture, then peered harder, thinking, "that sure does look like a stamp and logbook." Turns out it was the stamp and logbook from Papers of Thomas Jefferson.

Here's the article: What We Found in Alderman Library. Spoiler alert: the opening picture reveals the stamp image. If you do look at the article, section 2 has a blurb about letterboxing. They sound pretty respectful, so I sure hope they replaced the box!

Calling all Virginia boxers! Come enjoy an event in a scenic part of the state you've probably never boxed in before. It will be an overnight camping event, since the event location is in the abject middle of nowhere. The park has camping and cabins.

http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/fairy-stone#general_information

The event is the weekend of May 19th.

Random Unlisted Box Found

While Planting in NorthSide Park in Vienna, VA the other day, I came across a ziplock container laying on the side of a hill. Its sides were cracked open and it looks like an animal has tried to get into it. I went to pick up the trash to throw away when I got home or to a trash can. I opened it and it was a letterbox!

Apparently, it was one of four that's in this park in a "code breaker" series. On the inside of the logbook, it has basic info for letterboxing and lists letterbox.org (which doesn't exist but that's ok. I think they meant letterboxing.org) no one has ever found this letterbox before, and it turns out this series is not listed on LBNA or Atlasquest! Does anyone happen to know anything about it?

Cool find - lucky you! I didn’t see any likely possibilities in the LbNA basement, and don’t think I’ve ever hunted ‘boxes in Northside Park...

As chance would have it, I was at an event a couple of weekends ago and someone told me about a website called Letterboxingcentral.com (I think that was it). I don’t know anything about it but it might be worth looking into.

I don't know what the deal is with that web site but they give phone #s to call that are weird. And if you google them they are robot callers I think?

And they give a weird address:

125 Road St
New York, USA

+11 222 333 4444
+11 222 333 5555

I wish I hadn't even gone to the web site. I didn't get any kind of a warning about the site though, like not to go to it.

I do remember the original letterboxingcentral.com. It was still around as a place to post.....can't remember if they listed boxes......and I joined it. I remember having discussions with other boxers. This had to have been just before AQ?

Now that you referred to that message, I have a dim memory of seeing that here on AQ....the owner selling it, etc.

It seems to be just sitting there not doing any real harm as far as I can see. Unless you call one of those phone numbers. lol Their copyright...if that is real, ran out in 2017. But it's not a source of any boxes. :)

Fairy Stone State Park has a bunch of neat features, and the cabins were even air conditioned! Piggy kept us moving and hiking and clearly put a lot of work into making this a fun weekend of boxing for us. It was great to see so many old and new friends.

What clever themes there were for this event title. I really liked the night boxes because that particular topic is a peeve of mine. LOL.

Thank you for your efforts, Piggy Jaunt! Until the next time....

PS. Special thanks to our cabin mates, Super Hedge Hoggie, who got up this morning and made breakfast for the cabin. It was yummy, and you are appreciated!

Yes, what a great event and wonderful time of boxing! Thank you Piggy Jaunt for all of your hard work. I'm still fairly new and learned a lot and made several new friends. I hope there will be an encore next year.

I strongly agree with everything RDHG said.
Fairy Stone State Park is quite awesome. I have been many times over the years and I learned something new this weekend. The man made lake was filled up over a small town. There once was mining and moonshine making going on in the area.

Then there is the Fairystones that you can go to and hunt them for free. We found a lot!!!!

Piggy Jaunt went above and beyond with her event there, it was so much fun.

So I was in my local library (in Indiana) last week talking to the librarian about hiking books and I hear this voice from behind me say, “Jabber?” I turned, dumbfounded, and there was Paper Trail. I did not recognize her and I don’t know how she recognized me—good with faces I guess. We had only met face-to-face at L&B in Massachusetts, but enjoy each other’s PLBs, chatting via AQ, and sharing events. Happy happy AQ’day wherever your travels take you.
