Quiet Place Exits Stage Left

As much fun as I have had traveling the back roads and planting boxes wherever I go, I'm going to have to hang up my hat for a while. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 weeks ago. Tomorrow I have surgery. Sometime right before or after Christmas I will start heavy-duty kick-my-ass chemo, at which point I will likely hibernate even more out of sight than I already have been.

When Live & Breathe was going on, I had a few people ask if I had time to meet up for exchanges. I didn't because I was in the process of having tests. And, honestly, I've enjoyed the anonymity out here in Texas. I haven't been to an event since 2010 when I was living in east TN.

But I had planned to meet up with a couple of local letterboxers to pass off a couple of HH that I can't move forward. I thought I'd make a mini-event (which is not an event-event) to see if any other local (Dallas, TX area) letterboxers would like to come have dinner with us. There will be no event stamp because I have surgery tomorrow and I can't guarantee I'll feel like carving anything after that. (But if someone feels like creating one and donating it, I'll set it out.)

I'm thinking the best date would be Friday, Decemeber 14... evening because I don't know yet if I'll have appointments during the day. Location will be near Allen, TX. There are many letterboxes to find in the area, so if you travel to spend the night you won't be without letterboxes to find.

I want to go ahead and list the event this afternoon but I thought I'd post here for comments or suggestions before I make it official.

I’ll be thinking of you and I encourage you to take it VERY easy for a while. I made the sorry mistake of rushing into things too quickly (I also had 3 children under 6 at the time) after my mastectomy and subsequent treatment. Please be easy on yourself. No stamp is worth sheer exhaustion. Trust me, just breathing for a while could be difficult. Everyone will understand. (hug)

There are so many of us survivors. Recovery takes a toll. It does take a while to get to "normal" and normal might be different. Battling and healing take an enormous amount of time and energy.

Hugs to you and your family. Wish we could come out to your gathering and offer our support in person, but we're on the wrong side of the metroplex and I don't like driving at night. We'll be cheering you on in spirit and hope our paths will cross at some point in the future.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I have enjoyed finding your boxes over the years.
It was very obvious that you put a lot of thought and planning into your plants.

When I see or hear your name, I think of beautiful small white churches, in a small rural , quiet place. Thank you for sharing , showing me these wonderful spots through letterboxing.

Wish I could make it for your event, but Houston is a bit of a ways to make it up to the DFW area. Defiantly in our thoughts and I second Baby Bear's motion, if you need anything from the Texas Letterboxers please reach out!

Sending soothing thoughts,

Last Minute Carving help appreciated

Hi all - I just thought I'd put out one last request for stamps for the 2018 Year in Review event being held over New Years weekend up here in snowy Maine. If you can carve a last minute stamp, I'd very much appreciate any help I can get. My RA hands aren't working well in this cold weather. Due date to receive the stamps is 12/27/18. After the event concludes, the whole collection of stamps will be made into a Time Capsule event box, which can travel to events across the US. Currently the Time Capsule 2017 event box is available to travel (with 40+ stamps, it is a little heavy but I don't mind paying the postage for it to be sent as long as the requester doesn't mind paying for it to be returned to me.)

Here are the trackers for the event, with ideas for stamps:
2018 News and Current Events
2018 Pop Culture, Trends and Entertainment
Sports in 2018
In Memoriam 2018
My 2018

Again, thanks for any help that can be had. It's very much appreciated and the drop-in participants love to see other folks work.

Hi there,

Our next trip will be a fall trip to the Door County Lighthouses and letterboxes. Tentative dates are Sunday, September 22 to Friday, September 27. You arrange your flights to and from Milwaukee and we’ll take care of the rest. We will rent either vans or a bus.

Visit Pinecone Adventures Facebook page and “like” it to get the latest news. If you are interested, please comment on the post about this trip.

Hope to see you on this trip that will be filled with fall beauty, the sea, lighthouses, letterboxes and, best of all, some terrific letterboxers!

See the Texas talk list. Trying to get information on how many of you will be in Kerrville Friday night, if you want to meet for dinner, and where y'all are staying. Please give me your thoughts on that yahoo group list. Thanks!!!

This year my family is hosting our ninth annual Soup's On event in November. We invite boxers to the Western MA region for the day to box, then we have a potluck of crock pot soups for dinner and more boxing in the woods around our home. The theme this year is Autumn.

I am on the lookout for stamps if anyone would be willing to carve, or donate any unused stamps you may have. I can return the stamps or permanently plant them, whatever you like.

Here are some trackers for ideas:

Autumn Holidays
Autumn Scenes
Autumn Treasures

Thanks for considering.

Event in Idaho

The Crafty Mom, babypanda, and I are working on a letterboxing event for late this summer. Logistics still need worked out, but we need to know how much interest there would be for the event. Currently the plan is to have the event over a weekend in September/August (probably Friday evening-Sunday morning). It would be near Boise, Idaho. There will be night boxes as well as boxes to find during the day. The theme is the Enchanted Forest (all things mythical, Narnia, LOTR, OUAT, etc). Because there is a cost for the campground and likely prizes as well we would have a small cost per person.
Any thoughts, tips, interest in this?
