Got my ten planted.

Ahem...my FIRST ten.

This was a perfect excuse to finally do the ones I planted today. I've had the images picked out for over a year and found the trail I wanted to plant on in the spring. Thanks to the team for giving me the motivation to finally carve and get them in the woods :)

Stay tuned for more.... I have more ready to be deployed :)

I have a virtual event going for the same reason. Illinois is celebrating 200 years - our bicentennial! That gave me the idea to do a virtual event called:

Party Like It's 199 + 1 - Help us Celebrate the Illinois Bicentennial!. It has been great fun to find all kinds of things to celebrate for our state. Many people from many states have joined in on the fun. Then, a friend of mine challenged me to try to get 200 boxes planted for the bicentennial. We now have 129 boxes planted in 11 states! There is even an Illinois Bicentennial box planted in NC!

AQ #296970 Illinois Bicentennial: The Road to 200 Went Through NC by Outdoorsoccer

I think as letterboxers we should place focus to planting as well as finding. And, we must be creative to encourage people to plant boxes. I applaud your POWER PLANT challenge! I have planted 36 boxes for the Illinois Bicentennial event so far plus a few others.

Keep the wonderful ideas coming! Hope you think about travel to Illinois next summer and find many of the Illinois Bicentennial boxes along the way to join us at Homerdoodle in the Woods on July 20th.

I've been carving away.

Got one all ready to plant and just about have permission to plant. Just need to write up the clue and get approval. She's very excited about having it, but also wants to have some control...

I am carving a series of 15 to plant and have 4 done. Finished my NC box for my State Mottos series.

Through all of this, I realized I need to go to the eye doctor. It's really hard to carve right now!!

I found the book "Weird Carloinas" in a Little Free Library & have a few locations I've got to see! Perfect muses for LBX'es.

Ok, I'm in too. I planted one this past weekend but will probably struggle to make it to 10. Anyone care to make a donation or two?🙂

Jason - congrats on your plant this weekend!

I will send you all the stamps you want if you want to plant them! I love carving, but planting is H A R D (which is why we set this six month challenge at 10 plants) :)

Sarah - just saw this and think it's an excellent idea! We've been worried about the state of letterboxing here in the Charlotte area. We need more boxes and boxers here! So count us in and we'll make Destiny3 participate too! We just planted 3 zombie boxes in Charlotte over the summer and it looks like Hurricane Flo got 2 of them. Never in a million years did we think the boxes we planted would get washed away so I guess we better plan for these 1000 year floods when we plant!

We will try to plant a few here in SC. I have 1 that I have started carving & needs to be planted soon.
9 more in 6 months? I can do that & carve for the Dead Pool Postal Ring.

I had the same thing happen. I lost 3 to Flo in Fayetteville, and all 3 were hidden higher than the flood levels of Matthew so I thought they were good! I haven't confirmed the ones I have in New Bern and Wilmington yet.

All the more reason to plant some more! Surely it won't happen again so soon...I hope!!!!

I just heard that Walkin Orange passed away on 11/4. I have many fond memories of our letterboxing days. We hiked 13 miles through the Uwharries together, he introduced me to Orienteering (where his boxing name comes from) and was so creative in his art, clues, and carves. His boxes were a joy to find as well as his LTCs. I remember him always smiling and joking with me. Joan was Here was his wife (aka Pink Elephant).

I remember Walkin Orange, it was March 2007, I was at Cane Creek in Waxhaw doing the "When is a Raven Like a Desk" series.

I noticed a man sitting at a bench overlook the water, he seemed to be watching me. I needed to be at the log at the woodline where the box was but I couldn't get it with him sitting there.

So I walked over close to him and mentioned the water or the weather, and he said , the box is over behind the log, we both laughed and then started talking LBing.

I told him that there was going to be an event the next day and he should come. He said he didn't know about it and had not signed up. I told him that was OK he could still come. Much to my surprise he did come.

I've seen him at several events since, always kind, and pleasant to be around. I'll always remember the way I met him.

RIP dear Walkin Orange

I remember meeting him that time y'all had the meet and greet for my family when we were visiting North Carolina. He was a real sweet heart, and had quite the sense of humor.

I remember him. I enjoyed chatting with him at a couple of gatherings. I think he did a little mini teach on orienteering at one of the gatherings. An interesting man.

I was just wondering a couple of weeks ago if he was still in LB'ing. Although I only found one of his boxes it was a neat stamp. I met him once at a event in NC and he was very nice and I enjoyed listening to him talk about his adventures.
Prayers for his family

Thanks for letting us know. So many people come and go from this hobby, it becomes hard to keep track of them unless you become close. I always enjoyed talking with him at events.
RIP Walkin Orange.

Even though you live in SC now, you will always be one of those "Crazy NC boxers!"
It was great spending time with you last weekend - and who were all those middle-aged people drinking beer?

Have a wonderful day!
