I made quite a few of them. Would you like me to send some leftover material?

Thanks we’ve mostly seen the mesh bags but never thought about the rotting aspect. We did buy a cheap suet holder at Menards this morning for like $1.50 to try out so I think we’re going to go with it.

The bags get sun rot pretty quickly.

Depends on the fiber content. I've got some LBs in mesh bags that are pretty old and still doing a great job.

What fabric do you use? Do you have instructions?

the longest surviving mesh bags have been made of olive green nylon mosquito mesh (heavier stuff, more like tent screen)
Sew around three sides to make a bag
Fold down the top edge of the opening to make a casing for a drawstring
Thread a nylon cord through the top casing
Voila'!

I bought a large quantity at Hancock Fabrics several years ago, but I can't recall exactly the type of fabric. I cut a simple rectangle to fit my LnL, and sewed up the sides, and folded the top for a corded drawstring. I used a thingamagig to pull the drawstring closed. One bag is holding up well (outdoors, and a bit sheltered), one is not (under brush near base of tree). The camo pattern blends in really well here.

I am creating a hanging plant for the box I adopted this summer. I like the suet idea. Is the stamp and logbook in a plastic bag or in something else within the suet?
I crocheted a loose mesh bag to hang it, but the weather rot post has me rethinking whether I should use it.
Thanks,

Aw shucks....
We have great carvers here in Minne-snow-ta: Tie Dye Sue, hartwolfzell, estella & skootch, Traveling Queen of Hearts....
Remember that it very likely cold here in November, so look for letterbox clues that mention hanging pouches or "do not un-pin" (so the box is not frozen to/in the ground).

According to my local newspaper, Lake Elmo Park reserve is going to undergo $2.5 million improvements in the fall of 2019.

My letterboxes at that park will be retrieved and retired in August.
If you want to go with me for a day of boxing/retrieving/retiring. I'll make the day into an event!

Sounds like a great time!! Will watch for any updates. That park is HUGE and has a fair amount of GCs too, so I wonder what will happen to those as well.

What is are the developments going to consist of???

I don't know the scope of the project, but $2.5 mil is a LOT of trailwork.

It is with a bit of sadness that I report another letterbox gone, retired, sent to the wood chipper.

I'll update the clues. The first box is in great condition and has not had a finder since hartwolfzell was there in the spring of 2013. Since the hiding spot for the second box is gone, I will not be re-carving that particular stamp.

At least some people had the good fortune to find the second box?? Some of my internationals seem to have gone missing without AQ finders and that makes me sad.......
