Yeah but is that because of the name or because of what you are doing?

Given that the yelling is usually accompanied by "waving" to me, with either 4 or 5 fingers bunched up (depending on the circumstances) ... I'd say they know me. Even if they don't.

I've heard mixed feelings on listing a stamp that someone else has planted or released into the wild. I think that might be left to your discretion.

No, it isn't.

NEVER list a stamp that isn't your own (without permission). If someone CHOSE to release it without listing it, that is THEIR CHOICE. It is NOT up to you to override that. Period.

Now, that is NOT to be confused with "logging unlisted finds"... which is perfectly acceptable, and can be done as a Premium Perk or on a Hat Day. But to list someone else's box/HH/cootie/flea is strictly a no-no. Listings that are made without a planter's permission will be deleted by an admin if found.

I'm sorry if this is coming off as harsh, but you have NO IDEA the amount of grief we get here at AQ Headquarters over stuff like this, from irate boxers...

Also, this is Item #1 in the Code Of Conduct/Respect:
Do not publish clues or stamp images that are not your own unless you have the owner's permission.

So it isn't just me being a curmudgeon. Curmudgeonosity is just a bonus.

Cross Family,

There are letterboxes that others have planted which are listed on other websites or the clues are WORD OF MOUTH (WOM). That means they are only given out from the planter of the box to people of their choosing. These letterboxes CANNOT be listed by someone other than the person who hid the letterbox. That box and those clues belong to them. It's not another letterboxer's right to share those clues on this website.

An unlisted find is listing a find of a letterbox where the clues are on another website but not listed on AtlasQuest. There are several letterboxes listed on letterboxing.org which are not on AtlasQuest. Those letterboxes can be listed as "found" on AtlasQuest, but only if you have a premium membership. For those who do not have a premium membership, there are a few times a year where the theme on AtlasQuest is HATS. That's a "free day" to list those finds that aren't listed on AtlasQuest. It's done the same way, under RECORD FINDS, but you would have to type in the name of the letterbox.

I hope that helps a bit.

Maybe someone before you lost the HH's logbook. It's possible. But logging it as a find, either as a premium member or on hat day, using some designation that makes sense to you sounds okay. Maybe you could put a new logbook with it, just so finders in the future can see where the HH been, at least since you found it.

Same thing with the cootie with no information. Maybe the logbook was lost, or perhaps the person who carved the cootie doesn't want or need to track its progress out in the wide world; it was released into the wild purely for the enjoyment of the finder/finders. It would be a wild, carefree thing to do, the joy being in the carve and the release, not in the satisfaction of watching its travels and seeing where all it goes.

I was in the Harriet Tubman visitor's center and asked for the box as per the clue. The box is called Moses of her People. Imagine my surprise when I was handed a box and a bag. In the bag was a large carving of Harriet and a large brown ink pad, no log book. The initials KB are on the carving. Does anyone know the name of this box? I have searched other finders of the Moses of her People box, but haven't found any reference to this second carving. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Should we make them go dark till we can get them registered correctly, or leave them as-is till closer to that time for anyone who might already be planning to hunt them?

I'd fix the listing on Atlas Quest ASAP. Once people start recording finds, it's a whole lot messier trying to fix listings! The numbers in the logbooks can be fixed whenever....

ink pads or markers on the trail?

It has been a while since I have been active. I was getting my trail kit together to go out and discovered that my marvy brush markers are all dried up. I went to all three craft stores in town and not one had them. I really didn't see any other stamping markers. What does every one use?

Thanks Condo

{Often, people log finding the series and even leave a nice note, but they forget to check any of the boxes. I have to confess to doing that, as well.}

I thought I was the only one who did that! I think I've even done it more than once........so I'm also adding my support for a one-click option for series.

What about if the default is that nothing is selected. Then if you try to submit something without even changing it to "note" you get a message about that. That way, in order to submit a log you will at least have to change something.

I have some of both. Sometimes you needs lots of colors (markers) and sometimes you need a stamp pad (if the image is really big and all one color).

I use small ink pads! I don't know how common it is, but my ink pads are fingerprint sized. It makes them easy to carry and easy to get a better impression. Though I've never tried markers...

I'm not a fan of this idea only cause I've hosted an event and attended many.
It really frustrating when people check them all and I know for a fact that they did not find the box. As a planter and a hostess, I put a lot of effort into them being found. It's like cheating to me .
And yes I know this is a hobby and I should not worry, but I do.

I just bought a set of small Archival stamp pads and the box that they fit in. It's small and fits into my new boxing bag (double-decker lunch bag I got from Sams). I got tired of the lids falling off and getting ink all over everything. We'll see how this new system works if I ever actually get to get out and letterbox.

I almost tried the rubber cement, but thought it would slide. I've had this double ended marker/glue stick that's been laying around. It's perfect for easy gluing of the stamps. It's several years old--I can't believe it still works.

Reading the comments I find it’s a Dockyard micro tool. There’s also a similar product from Ramelson. They come in V and U gouges :

Does anyone have any experience with these tools?

I use Dockyard micro gouges, mostly only the smallest U, I think it's 1.5mm if I remember correctly. It's a good gouge and has held up fine. But I don't use the V's, because they're not as sharp an angle as my Staedtlers.

Perhaps, once a finder clicks "Record Find" on the listing, the default should be that all the individual boxes in a series are already checked. You'd have the option to change the check to attempted or N/A as appropriate.

Or perhaps, if you click on "Record Find" and then try to close up without checking any boxes, AQ should remind you that you need to check boxes.
