If anyone has boxes planted in Springfield and has a relative newby with a private logbook log a find, you can let me know & I'll check on your box (check my logbook to find their name). They found my Iwo Jima and Abraham Lincoln and left them out in the open. Abraham Lincoln's box apparently had been broken since I replanted it and the logbook is ruined from all our rain this week. I was able to dry the Iwo Jima box out.
New Cemetery Series in St. Louis

As soon as the US Senate passed the Susan B. Anthony Amendment to the Constitution on June 5, 1919, which extended the right of suffrage to women, proponents quickly organized the process of urging states to ratify the amendment. Next year marks the 100 year anniversary of Missouri's ratification of the 19th Amendment on July 2, 1919.

Venture to Missouri to visit one of its acclaimed cemeteries-- Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum -- and pay homage to some of Missouri's noteworthy suffragists and pick up a series of letterboxes celebrating their work.

While visiting STL, explore the newly designed park and museum on the St. Louis Arch grounds: https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/gateway-arch-museum-st-louis-missouri/index.html

Plan to spend extra time at the cemetery searching for these letterboxes:
The Guiding Line and Tombstone Iconography as well as the Movers and Shakers collection which requires research in advance of visiting. All boxes planted in collaboration with cemetery staff.

NOTE: due to the big storms that swept through STL last week, there are a lot of trees down and clean up is in process. All roads were accessible at the time of planting.

And when you come, give us a shout out so we can plan a meet-up!

When I didn't want to hike in the woods alone, I convinced you to go with me and you did! But before that we married guys from the same home town, we taught together for years, our kids went to the same babysitter, we went to a million garage sales, we retired about the same time, we shared a job at the University of Illinois after retirement, and now we shop and letterbox together. What a grand friendship with many more chapters ahead!

Happy AQ Cake Day to you, my dear friend!

Thanks so much! We enjoyed the planning and the set up but mostly enjoyed seeing so many letterboxers having fun! We didn't do a very good job of weather planning but perhaps we all networked inside the building well since that happened. :)
Illinois Bicentennial Celebration

I have just listed a virtual event to celebrate Illinois Bicentennial and it is called:

Party Like It's 199 + 1

Please sign up.. let's build the number of boxes planted everywhere! Everyone can participate. Try to think of a cool Illinois thing - parks, people, vacation spots, rivers, vacations, teams, colleges, etc. Plant anytime in 2018 and call your box "Illinois Bicentennial: <your box name>" If you email me the name of your box and the location I will include it as an update on the event listing.

I'm signed up to plant, and have a subject for the box, but need some guidance from Chicago boxers about Graceland Cemetery. Does it have boxes? There are a number of famous people buried there, so to me, it makes a good location. However, I don't find any listings, though it possible there are restrictions that prevent me from seeing them.
Any advice?
Thanks!

I had one there called "Kimball's Keys", after the Kimball piano guy- it went missing. I am not aware of any others in that Cemetery, but it is extremely highly policed. There is security presence everywhere; patrols and cameras- so it will be very hard to plant there. I've been there many times, because my great-great-grandfather is buried there, and the security presence is always the same every time I've gone. I admit that when I did plant that box, I was very young and naive in my letterboxing experiences!

As of today there have been 139 boxes planted for the Illinois Bicentennial Event: Party Like It's 199 + 1 - Help us Celebrate the Illinois Bicentennial! Event no. 4046

It is almost the end of 2018 - the Illinois Bicentennial year. Please do continue to plant letterboxes for the Illinois Bicentennial. We were challenged to plant 200 boxes and to date we have 196 boxes planted (and more to come) since August of 2018. I thank everyone who signed up for the virtual event and I thank everyone who has planted 1, 2, 3, etc. boxes for this event. Everybody wins in a virtual event - the planters, the finders, individuals, everyone! We reached 22 states so people can find these connections to the Illinois Bicentennial all over the country.

Thank you for helping us to celebrate by planting boxes. To those of you who signed up and still are awaiting a day to plant, please do so and let me know. I will add them to the list whenever they get planted.
