3 1/2 hours to get there, 4 hours to get home, 50 boxes in 2 hours, totally worth it.

Thanks Mosaic Butterfly had a great time.

I TOTALLY second the shout out to Mosaic Butterfly. What a fun event! So well planned, lots of amazing carves, a ton of fun HIPS, and a great combo of outside stamps (for the cooler morning) and indoor library stamps (for the hotter part of the day). Also loved getting to see and/or meet a whole bunch of San Antonio boxers!

(And glad you got home safe, NLW, and great to see you.)

I tend to copy and paste into a word document, format the way I like them, and then print out the lot of them at once. The control freak rules.

Unless the clues are unusually long or complicated, I just bring them up on my phone and do a screen capture. No paper use at all and they are always with me.

I am so thankful for everyone who made the trek! It was great to see everyone and catch up. What a fun time I had putting this event together--it almost planned itself! The library was very kind and supportive.

My sis, DS, are now home and happy to be relaxing after an early, yummy Mexican dinner. Thank you to all who were able to attend!

You could do both and still save paper. What I mean is that you copy & paste them into a document then transfer them to your phone. If there are any pictures then you copy those separately.

I did this years ago when palm pilots were the thing to have. However, when I got to the trailhead I found that I had forgotten to charge it. My GPSr still had batteries that were working so I went geocaching instead; not as interesting but it still gave me a place to hike while I was there. I'll have to get those boxes next time I'm on the other side of the mountain.

If you have the time you can cut and paste to a word doc. and eliminate wordage that is not necessary to the clue such as historic info, personal experiences, etc. This can save a lot of paper, ink and reading.

thanks to the folks at Wakeda! We had a fun and relaxing time getting properly inky with friends. Some of the boxes had us on a merry chase... and the few rain bursts didn't stop us. Another job WELL DONE! Wish I hadn't run out of steam... would have liked to catch those night boxes... but my sail was completely without wind by the end of the day!

Thanks again... love getting inky with our over-the-boarder boxing friends!

Letterbox Not Appearing in Search Results

There is a local letterbox that I heard about through WOM because it never came up in any of my local searches. If I type a key word in the Box Name space then it appears and is mapped as being in our town. Why is this happening?

I’ve also seen ones that come up in regional searches with a locally mapped location but which appear from the clues to be located really far away (out of state).

As always, it was great having you and everyone who attended join us. It was probably our most laid-back, least effort, fewer stamps years EVER, and I was very pleasantly surprised how many people thanked us for that. We were a little worried there wasn't going to be enough to do!

So to everyone who joined us, both new and old Wak-os, thanks for showing up, mingling, helping out and just being YOU - I wouldn't want it any other way, and we wouldn't have all this fun without you! THANK YOU!!! ;)

I actually like all that extra stuff - I feel like we can get to know the planter better, and gain some knowledge, sometimes to the point of doing a little extra research on our own of the area/subject matter.

Thanks for the carving offers! I’ll get back to you.

Although I would love to have it around Santa Cruz, I need to have it somewhere more easily accessible to me as I will be going several times to get it all set up. Most likely it will be a scenic drive in Marin/Sonoma counties. We will have a potluck to follow. Details to come!

Box adoption-I don't remember how this works (sorry)

Hi! There was a box in a tree that the owners of the tree (it's on the property of a restaurant and the owners of the restaurant had given permission to plant the box) told us the tree would be cut down. The owners of the box have not logged into AQ in over 2 years. So I pulled the box. (I will be asking the restaurant owners for permission to move the box to a different location, but they were not there when I removed it). I did try to AQ mail the box owners, but have not heard back....

They planted several in the area of the restaurant box. My question is: am I allowed to adopt the box(es)?

Please let me know (and if I need to clarify anything, let me know that, too.)

Thanks so much!

I don’t box or hike so much now.
I haven’t had much opportunity.
But I live near Windermere, north of Disney.

Glad to hear you are rescuing the box.

This may or may not be helpful, but here is the AQ policy on adoption:

Best you can do is make a finders note of the box's condition and where you moved it to hoping others will read note before looking for it. If by chance box is listed on LBNA you can ask for an adoption there and it is usually granted.

Probably because the location was listed incorrectly. It's very common for people to list locations incorrectly.

It's easy to say that a box is in a certain city then provide coordinates in a totally different country! AQ has no concept of boundaries and doesn't error check that sort of thing.
