Hi Friends, my buddy geckospot is coming to visit me during Shakespeare Festival St Louis opening weekend of Romeo & Juliet. She has posted an event: https://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?eventId=4021

Meet up at a reserved picnic table any time after 5:30pm. I will bring the old Bard Box, and there may be new stamp as well. Hope to see many of you there!

I will keep it in mind in case my CA family would like to go either Saturday or Monday. Cheesapalooza graduates from high school on Sunday, so the weekend is pretty busy! If I'm not there, here's a [virtual hug] to Geckospot!

Congratulations, Mom! How much will you cry watching your baby graduate high school? :-D

Looks like this is a busy weekend all over, we only have 1 sign up! Romeo & Juliet will be around most of June, but the gecko leaves Tuesday afternoon.

...for a Local event hosted by the poo Slingers and frog. Since the kids are hosting, I’m saying hold the date. If we don’t have it all together then we will have the event this winter as my usual annual event.

there is no way these two kiddos will have this organized by August. We'll plan for winter 2019, say Jan. or Feb. in lieu of my holiday party. They are very excited. We encountered a change of venue challenge. They are very creative with their ideas so be prepared!

Preparing for the unknown? Ack! Just spring an event on folks and whoever shows, enjoy them! I think a late winter AAF event is expected these days. Just won’t be a holiday theme this year. Rest assured, I will have holiday stamps on the trails thRough the season so plan an extra day in town for those. About 25 stamps this year!

I’m open for ideas for the Greek event. Most likely at my house again so I need some creative juices to start stewing. Especially ideas that don’t cost money. Got lots of time though.

New Cemetery Series in St. Louis

As soon as the US Senate passed the Susan B. Anthony Amendment to the Constitution on June 5, 1919, which extended the right of suffrage to women, proponents quickly organized the process of urging states to ratify the amendment. Next year marks the 100 year anniversary of Missouri's ratification of the 19th Amendment on July 2, 1919.

Venture to one of Missouri's acclaimed cemeteries-- Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum -- and pay homage to some of Missouri's noteworthy suffragists and pick up a series of letterboxes celebrating their work.

While visiting STL, explore the newly designed park and museum on the St. Louis Arch grounds: https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/gateway-arch-museum-st-louis-missouri/index.html

Plan to spend extra time at the cemetery searching for these letterboxes:
The Guiding Line and Tombstone Iconography as well as the Movers and Shakers collection which requires research in advance of visiting. All boxes planted in collaboration with cemetery staff.

NOTE: due to the big storms that swept through STL last week, there are a lot of trees down and clean up is in process. All roads were accessible at the time of planting.
A newby finder in Spfld., IL

If anyone has boxes planted in Springfield and has a relative newby with a private logbook log a find, you can let me know & I'll check on your box (check my logbook to find their name). They found my Iwo Jima and Abraham Lincoln and left them out in the open. Abraham Lincoln's box apparently had been broken since I replanted it and the logbook is ruined from all our rain this week. I was able to dry the Iwo Jima box out.

Thanks for the nice statements and emails. It was great seeing that oldie but goodie letterbox get the purple sparkle. I had not intended to plant on the actual Grant historic site, but a nearby geocache caused me to figure out a different spot. Letterboxing had recently been permitted at National Parks, with approval from each site. When I met with the park’s director she took over a month to decide to go with it. Guys -I am so glad I chose to get their permission. That one box opened up so many windows for me. Her letters of introduction gave me a MAJOR foot in the door when I started to do the STL Historic site series. Even though all the historical sites in the area are separate entities they all know each other, go figure! The next year my NPS friends approached me to see about getting boxes hidden for Missouri’s Sesquicentennial. My contact has since moved to Colorado, but we touch base every now and then. I just sent her a congratulatory email thanking her for permitting ‘Dear Julia’ to be placed on the site and helping to promote Letterboxing.

Thanks again,
Toasters

P.S. Anyone interested in planting a box at Colorado National Monument NP? :)
