I just checked the path and I don't even need to leave town ... 100%! There's a school track just around the block where I suspect many will camp out.
The launch of a new website!

Yes, I've done it again! I created another website! Because... well, I'm not sure exactly how many I have now, but I definitely know I needed another one. *nodding* =)
So, this evening.... I launched the latest and great website: Backcountry-Water.com!
I think it looks great! =)

Let us not go overboard with such effusively positive comments. They are likely to go to his head, and then we will end up with nightly "Next Big Updates". Besides, rumor has it that the REAL brains behind this site has an AQ number significantly higher than #1. I can't recall the exact delta... either 1991, or (more likely) 5.

Ryan,
Scorpions, ick, ick, ick. They give me the wim-wams. Love snakes, spiders are creepy, tarantulas are ok, scorpions are the worst. Personal opinion.

Your friend has some pretty terrible luck if they can give a first-hand account of being bitten by a scorpion and struck by lightning!

One time boxing on the Rock I scooped up a tiny salamander to move it so I could look for the box. Only it wasnt a salamander at all. It was a large (for GA) scorpion. It didnt bite me, so there's that.

Waxing pedantic: Scorpions, like bees, don't defend themselves by biting; they sting.
Still, a scorpion sting is not going to be pleasant.

In case anyone wanted to know....
6th most deadly scorpion in the world:
Striped Bark Scorpions
Scientific Name: Centruroides vittatus
Habitat: C. vittatus is distributed throughout the South-Central U.S. states and throughout northern Mexico. Beginning in the northern Mexico Border States, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, C. vittatus’ range extends upward longitudinally through Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas, to reach as far north as Thayer County, Nebraska.
Descriptive Info: The striped bark scorpion is an extremely common scorpion found throughout the midsection of the U.S. and northern Mexico. It is the most frequently encountered scorpion in the U.S.
It's a medium-sized scorpion that is rarely longer than 2 3/4 in. The striped bark scorpion is a pale-yellow scorpion that can be identified by two dark stripes on its carapace, with a dark triangle above the ocular tubercle. Their color suits their environment well. It provides them with a natural camouflage from predators, as well as prey.

So Ryan and I are camping outside of Las Vegas and it is the first time ever I have been desert camping, but he is an expect, did it several times in College, etc. So I am sitting on a rock at the campsite and I ask him if I should be worried about scorpions.....NO he says and at that very moment, A SCORPION JUMPS ON ME...it totally landed on my leg and I jumped up like a crazy person and I never trust anything Ryan says to this day.....(I did not get stung)

6th most deadly scorpion in the world:
Sounds pretty wussy to me! If it was the 1st or 2nd most deadly scorpion in the world, I might be more concerned, but the 6th? Bah!

A SCORPION JUMPS ON ME...
And I remind her how lucky she was to actually see one--how unusual it is to see them in the wild like that! But no, she's still mad. You'd think I threw it on her the way she reacted! *shaking head*
It probably wasn't even in the top 5 of most deadly scorpions in the world!
