This traditional box has been brought out of retirement with a newly carved stamp and logbook. The stamp is not the same as the original since that one was carved by Green Jello and sadly was muggled.

I got my booty also and it's made me happy all night. Every time I walk by all the stuff, I hear it say, "It's time to go letterboxing!" Lots of great places to eat while boxing, gas card, socks, carving materials...

I'm going to a OUAT convention next weekend, and both Lana Parrilla (Regina) and Colin O'Donoghue (Hook) will be there. They probably don't know a whole lot about next season yet, but I'm hoping they can lend a few insights as to how it's going to work.

Is there a limit to the number of boxes or size of the GPX file created by Atlasquest. I am trying to move over a large number of boxes to my Garmin and the file seems to be truncated around the Cs (the AQ search was sorted alphabetically).

There are always limits. Off the top of my head, I don't remember what the limits are when GPX files are created by AtlasQuest, but there are definitely limits.

Why bother to purchase them when you can take a gamble that you will be the winner of the It's About Time! raffle. A nearly new Staedler #1 gouge is part of the carver's box prize.

If you have any new or used carving tools from Staedtler Mastercarve, that you neither want nor need anymore, I would be happy to buy them.

Just let me know and we can begin a conversation!

Yours on the trail,

I have a sneaking suspicion that anyone who owns a Staedtler gouge and checks in here probably still uses said gouge.

Is anyone else concerned about the painted rocks craze currently going around? I vacillate between hoping the more enthusiastic artists discover letterboxing and worrying about people finding letterboxes while searching for rocks.

I did see some people hiding rocks in tupperware in the cracks of trees. This REALLY has me worried about stamps being traded for rocks or being moved because people assume the stamps gt moved to a new location like the rocks.

It may be time to go out and check some of my boxes, just for peace of mind.

Most of my boxes are planted in places where nobody is going to hide a rock. At least, that's my hope...

I saw painted rocks at a public garden in Ormond Beach. They
were bright, colorful and clearly unconcealed. At this location it seemed the hidden letterboxes were in no danger.

Origami Hen and I found a very cool painted rock almost on top of a letterbox a couple months ago in Texas. I (greedily) took the rock and, of course, left the letterbox.

So, an update. . I looked on fb and apparently there's a rock painting group that's hit my town.. I'm somewhat fascinated, but also disturbed. Why can't letterboxing become popular in my town, but rock painting can?

I remember painting rocks as a child and everyone thought I was weird. Lol

I have some in both types of places.

I do, too, but most of mine are planted in places like this one that I planted today, maybe 75 feet off a trail that isn't exactly full of people:

From this intersection, retrace your steps about 30 steps. If you look left here, you should see a huge, flat, slanted boulder. Walk a few steps to the right side of this boulder, then look at 285 degrees to see a lone hemlock ~30 steps away. Walk to this hemlock, passing a small boulder on the way. As you approach, walk along the left side of the hemlock, climb over a log resting on another small boulder (this one touches the hemlock). When you are standing directly behind the hemlock, look down for an old fallen log. The root end of this log hides...

The painted rocks that I've seen so far are along the edges of trails, but maybe that's not the case everywhere?

Minnesota nICE event preparations
Board: State: Minnesota
Jun 2, 2017 2:37pm
Thread Board
Today feels like summer, which induces me to think ahead to winter's icy solitude.
This winter, I'll be hosting a Minnesota nICE event.
Location TBD .... but I'm leaning toward a southeast metro library that has nearby trails.

The event will feature a series of indoor boxes (with some puzzles!) as well as some limited time outdoor boxes.
There will be opportunities to skip some puzzles by being Minnesota nICE.
Here's the beginning of the list of things that you'll want to keep in mind/do this summer
(you'll probably want to photograph yourself, too .... so that you can prove it/collect puzzle-skipping points)

Be a nICE letterboxer:
fix up a box with needed bag or logbook
plant a new series of letterboxes
plant a new letterbox along a long hike
plant a new letterbox near an ICEcream shop or a juICE bar or your offICE
letterbox in ICEland, rICE lake, (or any location that has ICE in it's title)
find a letterbox that has been planted for more than 10 years

(the complete list will be published later this summer - but I'll accept point-skipping dates beginning June 2)

I hope you are entICEd!!
