Was it some kind of tag added when I bookmarked that post that personalized it for my account or something? (I don't have the words for what I'm asking. . .) Is that why it still works for me, but not for everyone else? Just curious for future reference.

Wow! Very thorough explanation. Thank you.

I dug deeply into the Fitbit App and eventually found the stride they automatically set for me. Surprisingly, it's based exactly on the same parameters that W4F uses. But in Fitbit's case they made my stride an inch longer than I have set in W4F. That may account for the discrepancy. I will re-measure my stride again and adjust as necessary both applications.

You should see the same register entries

I did not! When I first entered a register entry, with the 13.1 mile recording, there were at least five other register entries. After changing the mileage there was only one other register entry and I do not think it was included in the original entries. That's what threw me off on those. I'll poke around a bit on W4F today and see if I see those original entries. But I won't lose any sleep or steps over it.

Wow.. There were around 2 cubs, 1 mother and probably 1 lone bear around my house this summer. I saw the lone one (it was probably last season's cub) cross the road right in front of my mailbox. It was pretty amazing, and then it raided the neighbor's bird feeder. That was funny.

I haven't seen the actual bears, but there's a corner of Connecticut where they seem to enjoy biting down on letterboxes and leaving rather impressive teeth marks. One of the containers I found like this was stuffed pretty full, and when the bear bit down, it actually left a tooth impression in the stamp. Very cool stamp image in the logbook!

Making cookies ahead of time

Hi!

I am trying to do some pre-work for my son's grad party. We are trying to keep it as simple as possible, I hate having parties and having to be in the kitchen the whole time. So we are doing easy sandwich trays, and simple munchies. My question is cookies....he wants chocolate chip cookies. Is there a taste difference if I just make a ton of cookie dough over the next few weeks, keep it in the freezer, and then bake them all the day before the party or actually make the cookies now (over the next few weeks and freeze them)?

Frozen is frozen right....shouldn't matter what form they are frozen in??

any ideas?

Thanks everyone. I will look at the boxes mentioned. :)

I am not sure we will get to the island state park, though it looks nice. We do want to see the Lake and hope to find a safe, family friendly park or place to do so.

We have lots of other trip planning to do, so I'm sure I'll be asking about other locations soon. I love that letterboxing helps plan better trips! ;)

I say test the difference between the two ahead of time. I suspect cooking then freezing will make the cookies taste drier or they will be more brittle because of the heating then freezing, but I offer to sample each type, if you need help 😁

Antelope Island State Park is where most people go to see the Great Salt Lake. Entry few is $10 per car.

For such a large lake there are few ways to get to it on the west side, but you can see it for free from several places on the south. With all of the water we have had this year the shoreline should be close to where you can drive.

My mom used to work in an elementary school cafeteria. She would keep huge trays of cookies wrapped in plastic in the walk-in refrigerator for many days at a time. To keep them soft, she'd stick a few slices of bread right on top of the cookies, inside the plastic. The bread becomes stale and the cookies soften up. So if you cook and then freeze, I would suggest putting the cookies in the refrigerator to thaw at least 2 days in advance. Then taste them when they have thawed, and if they need to be softened, stick a couple slices of bread in with them at least a day before the party.

Any kid who can tell the difference between a frozen-then-baked dough and a baked-then-frozen cookie doesn't deserve cookies! Save your sanity and do what works. I have been known to eat frozen cookies. Gratitude for cookies is how you get into heaven. Ask anyone.

Since you are doing chocolate chip cookies, I personally would do the cookie dough. Freeze them "drop" size ahead of time. Line your pans with parchment paper (keeps your pans cleaner for multiple batches and cleanup a breeze) when baking the day before. No need to defrost the dough, but you will have to adjust the baking time.

Food items made (baked) fresh always taste better than things that have been in the freezer for awhile.

I was recently at a meeting and everyone commented that the home made cookies were absolutely delicious. The person who brought them said that she didn't have time, and that the cookies were actually from a school fund-raiser -- frozen cookie dough 😄

I used to buy the toll house cookie dough (in a tub) from Costco, divide the dough into more manageable portions, and refreeze. We could have a dozen fresh baked cookies anytime! Perhaps this can be an option for you also.

If you really want to simplify your life, just buy the premade cookie blocks in the refrigerated section and bake them in the week ahead of time. Even the store brand is delicious. But don't just break the blocks apart and throw square dough on the baking sheets. That's a rookie mistake! You'll want to roll them into balls before putting them on the sheets. They round out like a chocolate chip cookie should. If you think there aren't enough chips, you can smoosh more into the dough when you're rolling them. Plus, you can make the cookies whatever size you want by dividing or combining squares. Do a price comparison and you'll find they are just about the same cost as made-from-scratch.

I call that outdoor danger radar. It has kept me safe on many occasions. Always freaks the family out when on a trail and I stop and hush them to listen.

In reality I am far more worried about snakes than bears. However, when in Idaho/Montana I didn't feel very safe being in Grizzly country. Needless to say I didn't go looking for Huckleberries.

Definitely freeze the uncooked dough. I like to make a big batch of that chocolate chip cookie recipe that comes on the back of some kind of toll house chocolate chips/chunks/morsels and then shape them into cookie size balls and freeze on a cookie sheet. Once frozen/no longer sticky I put in them in a plastic bag for long term freezing. When I want cookies they go directly from freezer to a preheated oven, I simply watch to see when they are done, usually just a few minutes longer than the original baking time.

A really easy way to make a lot of cookies at once is to make the dough, split it in half, roll it into logs and refrigerate wrapped in plastic wrap or parchment. Do something else for an hour (make more dough, clean up, carve a stamp, etc.) then simply pull the dough out, slice it into 1/3" slices, toss in a bag and freeze.

I think that cookies that have been frozen after being baked tend to be a little soggy, and depending on how they were frozen, how long they are frozen, and what else you have in your freezer I feel like they sometimes have that weird freezer taste.

I'm lazy making CC cookies.
I put all of the dough into a 9x13" (or what ever size fits your batch) and cook a bit longer, like a cake.
Cool and cut into bars. One batch, one bake. Total time for scratch CCCs <45 minutes.
And it packs better if it's being shipped. Ask Gizmo'sGift. I sent her ~ 20 dozen "cookies" when she was in the Army. Got to feed the entire barracks if you're sending goodies to one.

I make and bake my own choc chip cookies from scratch but I do it in stages which makes cookie making very easy. I do the dough, then place the raw dough in a gallon sized ziplock bag, press out all the air, press the dough down to about an inch thick and freeze it flat (you may need smaller or larger ziplocks, depending on how much dough you make). When it is time for cookies, I peel back the top of the ziplock, slice off inch wide strips of dough, cut again into inch thick squares, then place the squares, still frozen, POINT SIDE DOWN (any point will do) on the cookie sheet, bake, and the cookies come out ROUND. You can adjust the size of your cookies by the size of the squares you cut out from the strip of dough.

1836 Texas declared independence
