I have one with the 1000 ft range and I can start my car from inside a grocery store in a plaza, through the wall or window. Plenty of range. He may find it better to stand near a window if it's a big distance, but it's do-able. Not worth an extra $100 for better range on an older car.

60 was
1) a fabulous amount to get in one day
2) a lot of work to find, stamp, replace in one day (even with youthful helpers)
I vote for fewer than 60 so that the day/stamping time feels a little more relaxed.

Great! Thanks for all the advice. Now we have to decide if its even worth it. If he doesn't get it till Christmas, he gets to use it the rest of this winter. (which could go till april!) But then as a freshman next year, if he gets in to his first choice, he wouldn't be allowed to even have his car on campus. Meaning, its going to sit in our garage all winter. hmmm worth it or not?

How do you find out where nests are? I get the same garbage all the time. I rarely play because I'm sick of ratatatas or whatever they're called, and Pidgeys.

I had a lot of fun.
HOWEVER....
The pain and agony over replanting to permanent homes the leftovers did not seem worth it. I don't want to have fun at your months-long expense. Do what you feel is right, and know that we all appreciate the effort and think you are fabulous for doing it.

Hope it's not too tacky to mention our personal traveler in the forum, but it's only around for this first weekend in November 2016. So, if you know any letter boxers who'll be at Faeriecon in Hunt Valley, Maryland, plz let them know that, if they find the Mad Hatter and Sock Faerie (who are sometimes disguised as humans), we'll share our limited edition stamp :-)
Another box planted ON TOP of mine?
Board: Traditional Letterboxes
Nov 2, 2016 1:23pm
I'm not sure what to do in this scenario. We did a maintenance check on our very first plant today (planted in 2009), and discovered a second, smaller box sitting directly on top of our own letterbox. The box was inside of a ziplock bag that had "Wonderbox 109316" and "Egypt on the Ipswich" written on it, and inside the box was a stamp only, no logbook.
I put them both back together, side by side, because I wasn't quite sure what was the right thing to do. Removing that box didn't feel right, but ours has been there for seven years now. I'm not happy with our spot being "poached," but am trying to be rational - maybe it wasn't hidden on top of ours initially, but was put back there by someone other than it's original planter?
The (other) problem is, my google-skills may be failing me here, but I can't find reference to this particular box anywhere online. So I can't even determine if this interloping box's clues would show that it was meant to be hidden in our spot, or if it was originally elsewhere. Any suggestions on what should be done, if anything? Can two boxes co-exist in one small hiding place? (On the bright side - at least it's not a geocache!)
*****
Edited to add:
Mystery solved! Thank you all for helping! I apologize for my earlier "miffed" tone, you've all helped me discover a much more positive perspective (and very politely pointed out that it looks like this other box was in fact planted first, although possibly missing around the time we planted?). It's a beautiful location - anyone local who hasn't been to the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary should really try to get there someday, it's a wonderful place!

Ah - here's why I was coming up blank when I'd search:
"Unauthorized
You are unauthorized to view that page. The FBI have been notified and will be calling shortly. (Just kidding about the FBI, but you are unauthorized to view that page.)
The most common reason for this error is that you are trying to view a restricted page. Maybe the page is just for administrators, or maybe it's just for premium members. Maybe you are trying to view a letterbox or tracker that has restrictions on it. Whatever the reason, though, this is not a page you are authorized to view."

Like a bottom of the 9th two out error with the ball going between the first baseman's legs to allow the walk off winning run to score! Or top of the 9th for Cub fans.
No GOATS (Has there been a Burkman sighting? Heard the Indians were going to give him front row seats down the third base line. - Mwhahaha)
No WILLIE MAYS (I was in the "mistake by the lake" in the early 80s with the guy beating the drum alone in section 54) May need some age to get the significance of this event and the player.

It apparently has restrictions that I don't meet yet, so I'm unable to view the clues nor see who planted it. Would anyone be able to send the planter a note for me, or ask if they'd contact me? I just want to be sure that their box wasn't moved to the wrong spot by mistake. I can't imagine that someone would purposefully plant directly on top of an existing box?

Mystery Postal #401 competition is now open
Board: Postals
Nov 2, 2016 1:53pm
For anyone who is not interested in participating or following mystery postals click ignore thread. That will save you from tediously ignoring my daily posts. However, each numbered postal will have a new thread.
THEY'RE BACK!
For those who are new to mystery postals and for those who need a refresher the rules follow:
To get this postal you will have to guess the name/subject of the stamp. Clues will be posted on the postal boards and on this tracker. I will try and post one per day. For each clue posted each person may make one guess prior to the next clue being posted. Please realize that ALL the clues will relate to the answer. I will keep everyone honest this year by not recycling any previous carves. Some would search through my plants looking for a matching stamp. In the old days that sometimes worked.
Guesses should be sent to IrishRef via AQMail, not posted on the boards!
Even if you have no clue take a guess anyway. Half the enjoyment is seeing the range of incorrect answers and how people connected clues for those guesses. Guessing will continue until there are 10 correct participants or I close it rather than flatly give it away. I typically give no feedback to incorrect guesses unless it strikes my funny bone or it is close and I am giving you a change to be more specific. Those correctly guessing will be notified by AQMail. Tracker order will be determined by order of giving the correct answer (except anyone living outside of USA. They get the postal last as a result of some lengthy transit times.). The correct answer with an explanation of how each clue is related will be posted once the postal is full. The actual box will be posted when the competition ends as Mystery 401: _________.
You may also look at the tracker to see all the clues in one list at:
http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gTrackerId=9183
GOOD LUCK!
Clue 1 = Red, White, .......

Egypt on the Ipswich. It actually looks like Boston B's series predates your plant by several months, it was an honest mistake . . . .by you (March '09 vs July '09) You both have a good eye for locations it seems.
If they're hidden well these things can happen.

That's the craziest thing. I know nothing was in that spot when I planted, so that's why I'm wondering if their box was mistakenly moved in the time since it was originally planted. I'm unable to see that box's clues, so I can't go back and figure out if we're supposed to be in the same exact spot or not.

You might not have seen the series listed as there are restrictions on it. Perhaps you have not met the "plants" minimum for the series.
I reviewed the Egypt clues and they reference your box
They have not logged in for a while but they seem to welcome your box as well as including in their note that their box went missing two times. That might be your answer to why the spot was empty at the time of your planting. I say coexist since they had no problem with the double booking!

That's wonderful, thank you so much for helping me out with this! I feel much better, and will add a note to my box's clues that this box is there. And when I return next week to replace my logbook I'll see if I can find a nearby spot for my own and move it, since this other box was apparently there first, even if temporarily MIA when I planted ours. I'll have to keep on planting so that I can eventually meet the restrictions for this box - I'd love to find the entire series!

You will need to zoom and drag, but if you are clever and know your lat and long, you can put that in the link directly!

I'm told that Mr. Cool in Kensington might be missing. If a former finder could check it out I'd be forever grateful and if it's still there maybe you could relocate it? Or pull it? It was never a good plant, maybe I was tired? Rushed? inebriated?
Thanks in advance.

Wow! Given that you're at P3 F75 X2 and can't see the other box's clue, it must have a high restriction.
Which brings up a point -> people will plant, not realizing they could be "poaching", if an existing box has been restricted. And related to that, if a person doesn't cross check on AQ & LbNA. And then, there are mystery boxes...

Okay to replace someone else's stamp?
Board: State: Connecticut
Nov 2, 2016 5:12pm
I have read a little bit on the boards about whether it was okay to replace a missing stamp but I'm not sure if this is the same kind of situation...
There is a series of letterboxes very close to my home, "Dry Bones: A Build a Skeleton Series", that has a box missing. :(
http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?boxId=2046
My husband and I found the series last year but the first box was missing. It was there this year when we found it but this time the fifth box was missing. We remember where it was last year when we found it and it was not in it's hiding place and it was nowhere to be found.
The previous finder also said that they were unable to find it and at the time it looked like there was a lot of maintenance being done in the area where the box was supposed to be.
The owner of this series has not logged into AQ or LBNA for two years.
Would it be okay for me to recarve the missing stamp? Or is that in anyway inappropriate?
I do have an impression of the stamp from when we found it last year.
This series is almost 12 years old so I would hate to see it retired but I don't want to do anything wrong.
Any advice or input is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks
-Joy

This can be a hard one to make the choice about. We had replaced a few stamps at first to help keep some of our local boxes alive. Just like yours the players were no longer active and we thought this would be a good thing to do. One issue we had with a couple of them was that they were not in a good location to start and the boxes or stamps went missing again. When you do not own the box you can not change any of the clues or hide locations so if the box is in a bad location and the stamp or box goes missing again.
So hard to say what to do...
