Several years ago a bunch of us on a (letterboxing) cruise went to the Skagway cemetery and it was worth the hike! I think we did catch a bus and then walk the rest of the way. I got a really cool picture on that hike. Great memories. I hid 2 boxes in Juneau but none in Skagway. Have FUN! ~ Yiker

For my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary they are taking all their children and spouses on a cruise. We will be sailing the inside passage, Ketchikan, Tracy Arm fjord, Juneau, and Skagway. We have been to Alaska before but we did the Alcan highway and the Fairbanks, Anchorage, Tok triangle thing (that was a SUPER fun trip!!). I'm not much into cruises but we love to travel. Can any kind soul(s) help with some inside information on what to see, what to avoid and most importantly what boxes to get. You can pm me if you don't want to post here.

We took a cruise last September down the coast and had a great time! For me, the "don't miss" location for letterboxing was the Gold Rush Cemetery in Skagway. A beautiful spot with 8 or more boxes. It is a bit out of town (less than 2 miles, if I remember correctly) to the north (ask anyone how to get there), but there is a shuttle that will get you most of the way there. We took a tour that stopped there at the end of the tour so we just left the tour at the cemetery and made our own way back into town on foot and via the shuttle. A couple of nice ones in town, too, if you don't want to go as far as the cemetery. There are a few in Juneau, one by lionsmane and one that I planted (it hasn't been found yet) near the docks. Also one at the top of Mt. Roberts Tramway. I couldn't find any in Ketchikan. I only mentioned boxes that can easily be accessed from the cruise ship docks. If you have a car, you can go farther afield. Maybe there have been more boxes planted since we were there. Have fun!

I have a box Let Sleeping Dogs Lie box number 240939 which is active right in town on a side street. I planted in 2014 and was back in 2016 and it was still there. also I have one on the way to the cemetery on the road in just past where the shuttle drops off riders as walking in on that access road. I will momentarily send you the number in case you do go out there.

The other box in Skagway on the road to the cemetery is: Crazy Moose Misses Port of Call box #240938!

Again, was planted in 2014 and checked it 2016 and still there... located in a special spot in the barricade and safe and dry!

Thanks,
Wendy

Thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely look for your box, I love being first finders... And we are cemetery nuts so we will try those as well.

Hey guys!
I'm going to be spending the day in Juneau for work and will have some time to kill. What are your fave boxes in the area? There seems to be quite a few 'retired' boxes, anyone tried for these lately, have any updates? Any info on where to eat for lunch is appreciated too. :D Thanks!

We are mostly in Anchorage or on the road system. I don't think those cruises come to Anchorage, do they? If they do, lets get together!

Firm dates: I'll be in Anchorage Saturday, June 17. Other than that, my schedule is open after the 4th of July that I could run up there for a day. :)

Okay! Let's shoot for July 29th. I'll reserve the room at Kaladi on Brayton so we don't have to try and find a spot to plop! :) It's free, so hopefully it's still available. I'll try for late afternoon so there's no rush to get up early to get here on time. :)

Invite all the letterboxers you know! :)

This list is super but we are not going to Anchorage on our tour in Aug. I need the same kind of thing for Fairbanks, walking distance from the Visitors center which is about 8-10 blocks north of our hotel. Can anyone help with this?

We will also have some extra time in Denali and Ketchikan.

I'm not an official tour guide, I was just helping someone out who requested it since I live here in Anchorage. I'm not certain there is a boxer up in FBX anymore. I think she left. Put your location into the box search and you will find them all laid out on the map. It's worked for us many times and Green Tortuga did a great job making it.
