An Unusual Tourist is now planted very close to I-25 in the park in San Antonio. Should be a quick find and a chance to stretch your legs on a long trip. You can stop at the Owl or the Buckhorn for a green chile cheeseburger if you are there at the right time. The produce stand at the corner of Hwy 380 and Hwy 1 has locally grown green chile and other produce, in season.

This box doesn't get much action and several people have had trouble finding it so I moved it (sad, since I loved where it was). But this new spot is a nice little easy stroll through the cottonwoods so check out the new clues and I hope it gets some more visitors now.

I've been through there several times but felt it was too complicated and too far into the"bush" ...I. Am a single gal. Going to Alburquerque in Feb and Hope to find it ...(just driving thro)

I'll be visiting Santa Fe, next month with my cousins, aunts, and mom.
I'm hoping to get out letterboxing.
Is March a good time to box? Is there any thing I should know about boxing in NM?

March can be wonderful or miserable--miserable if the big winds decide to blow. Other days you'll have a jacket on in the morning and be down to shorts and tee-shirt in the afternoon.
Cacti are a problem--particularly if you back into a cholla. It has thousands of almost invisible spines that irritate almost like chiggers. Good news is that we don't have chiggers and the mosquitoes won't be out yet.
Altitude can be a problem since Santa Fe is higher even than Denver, so you might want to take things slowly for a couple of days until you acclimate.
Santa Fe has a great bunch of letterboxers in residence so you'll have plenty to keep you occupied: Arnold Ziffel, Lionsmane, Rubberpeace, Astro D.

Yes, the weather in March can be a snowstorm or it can be warm or it can be windy - or maybe even all three in one day!

There are a number of boxes up on Hyde Park Road, but that area will probably still be snowed in. Lots of other boxes in town or close to town. Are your family members boxers, too? Are you interested in hikes or drive-bys or are you mostly interested in boxes near the museums, plaza, etc.? If you won't have much time for boxing, you should still be able to find at least a few boxes. If you have a certain area of town where you want to look for boxes, I might be able to point you to some boxes that would be easy for you to find.

Lots of things to do and see in Santa Fe!

Albuquerque Museum has an exhibit until April dealing with Block Printing in New Mexico--The Art of the Curved Line. It has some wonderful Gustav Baumann prints and the wood blocks and some contemporary work. It did not show people at work creating the wood blocks or the prints themselves--what did they use for magnification?
I'll try to get a stamp planted soon for those who want to see this.

Hi I'm new here so not sure if this is where I should post directions to finding my boxes.
I planted one in 2006 in Roswell, NM. I hope someone nearby can find it! I was never ever contacted. I believe a long time ago I did post on a letterboxing site but can't seem to find it! Would be thrilled if someone did. Happy Hunting and be safe please.

The directions:
Follow the signs to the Roswell Gallery of Contemporary Art.
Turn left on N. Grand.
Take the first right into the Wool Bowl (football stadium) parking lot.
Park on the far right closest to the field/farthest from the road.
There is a dirt pathway that leads towards the train tracks off of the parking lot.
Follow the pathway to the third largest tree on your right.
There is a sewer pipe sticking out of the ground just before the third tree.
If you go around the pipe, it's easier to get to the trunk of the tree as there are many low lying branches.
Approach the trunk and look up. The letterbox has a pink lid and is located on top of the trunk inside of a ziplock bag.
There is a special first finder prize!

For people to look for your box, you will need to post an official clue. You do that by scrolling on the word LETTERBOX at the top of this website on the menu bar. Once you do that, you will see several choices, one of which is ADD LETTERBOX. Click on that and then just follow the instructions for adding your clue.

Posting it here will not get it into the database when people search for letterboxes in New Mexico. But if you post it as I noted above, you should be all set.

I'm planning a letterboxing trip through eastern NM (hopefully sometime this fall). I have many plants planned. The stamps are almost all carved and I'm finally ready to start placing everything into containers, but I have no idea what containers to use. What types of containers work well in NM and what kind really do not?

Depends on what part of New Mexico. In the southern parts, like in southern Arizona, the wings on locknlocks will fail fall off due to extreme dry heat. Peanuts butter jars seem to hold p well

And... on another note... a new exhibit called A Mexican Century: Prints from the Taller Grafica Popular just opened in downtown Santa Fe at the NM History Museum. It runs through Feb. 18, 2018. Lots of good woodcuts, linoleum prints, and lithographs - it definitely looks worth checking out.

Any awesome dog parks in the Santa Fe area? Or dog-friendly body of water?

This is New Mexico, so water is pretty scarce. There is a great dog park on the west side of town off of highway 599 near the animal shelter at 100 Caja Del Río Rd. It is several acres and fully fenced. The Frank Ortiz dog park is popular on the north side of town, but I have never been there because it isn’t fenced. There are smaller parks scattered around town, but they aren’t terribly nice. My dog likes them anyway. :)

When are you planning on coming to Santa Fe? Maybe we can get together or have an informal meet and greet.

I thought that might be the case with the water but it never hurts to ask :) Thanks for the park suggestions, we'll probably end up at the fenced in one. We'll be there in April but unfortunately it's just for a quick day so we likely won't have time for meet and greets.

The best place to buy turquoise jewelry. in my opinion, is on the plaza at the Palace of the Governors. Native American vendors have their wares spread out under the portal of the Palace.

There are a few boxes downtown within walking distance from the Plaza: A Pressing Matter (pink diamond) by Astro D, Santa Fe Pastiche by Wronghat, Is She Mary? by rubberpeace, and my My Favorite Swine: Hamm. Not too far out, there are a number of boxes on Museum Hill/ Camino Lejo area. All of the boxes along Hyde Park Road are unavailable due to the forest closure.

There are lots of fun places to eat in Santa Fe. Too many to mention. If you know in what part of town you want to eat, I could make some suggestions. Come to think of it, I would enjoy meeting you for lunch and doing an exchange, if you would like. I could see if other local boxers might be available, too.

Hello Santa Fe:

Will be doing a brief visit in Santa Fe when I will meet with my non-boxer East Coast daughter for a "girlie" long weekend. She is an avid runner and does do extensive daily runs so I will have an hour or two to perhaps do a meet and greet with any local boxers. Will be arriving late afternoon on Saturday, so may have time Sun, Mon, or Tue AM to meet and exchange in Santa Fe if anyone is available.
