Okay for those who use WordPress as a website builder, can you help a girl out? I am the admin for our boyscout troops website. I want to be able to change things, save it as a draft and come back to it later. The problem I have found is that when you save it as a draft it removes the previous version from the web and you get a 404 error. Is there a way to overcome this? I will be building the churches website from the ground up and that will be a useful bit of information for that, too.

I'm a little confused... are you referring to saving a "post" as a draft? If you save a post as a draft, you wouldn't publish it so it would not be visible on the web site, so I'm not sure I follow when you say that "it removes the previous version from the web". Am I completely misunderstanding what you've said?

When using Wordpress as a webpage it's different than using Wordpress as a blog. What I'm asking about is when it is used as a website and you are working on a page (not post) and try to save it as a draft.

Ah, a page, not a post. I hadn't noticed this because I keep new pages set to private while drafting them and once they are live, the changes are minimal enough that it is not a problem that my working copy is my live copy.

When you are going to make substantial edits to a page that you would want to be able to keep in draft format without any changes being made to the live page, could you start a new page (set to private) and cut/paste from your existing page to the new page to use as a working copy and then when it is ready to publish cut/paste from the working page to the live page? There may be a few things that don't work right on your working page because of naming, etc. but it should work good enough to be an effective working copy. Most of the stuff on the page itself is just content as the vast majority of formatting/coding is in the page template, the sidebar templates, and the stylesheet.

Plus they spelled everything correctly. How could that not be legit?

I've been getting a lot of emails from paypal/ebay saying there's a problem and my account has been frozen. None of them have my name on it and I turn it in as phishing as soon as I see it without opening. The first one I got scared me because my daughter had just bought something & I was afraid they didn't get paid, so I called Paypal & they said there was no problem on the account. I continued to get the warnings.

I got the same email. Horrible grammar and tons of misspellings!

Yes, and I used to date one of them. *cringe*

Unfortunately, they do. I have a elderly widowed patron I've been helping to obtain free legal help. We took up a collection this winter to cover her gas and electric and she is in danger of losing her home. In 2016, she gifted all of her savings including a newly acquired home equity loan to her 'prince'. I saw some of the correspondence and it was text book How to Swindle One of the Lonely. I did ask her how she, an intelligent women, could have fallen for it. Her answer? "Oh dear, I always dreamed of being a princess."

We just got a new iMac and set up log in with limited access for our kid. The limits are great, but my reminders and text message alerts are popping up in the kid account. Can anyone tell me how to stop this?? I don’t want reminders and texts to pop up on the computer at all!

Do they appear on the upper right of the screen? Those are controlled from the System Preferences (under the apple on the far left); Notifications.

You can set all sorts of limits - I have not used it much, and don't have a kid account, so I can't give guidance, but I bet you can figure it out.

I found the preferences. Notifications. Had all banners turned off already. And do not disturb turned on when screen locked. But there was no way to choose do not disturb all the time. So ended up adding time limit to do not disturb. 12am to 11:59pm. I should have work! Would still love other hints!

Even with the do not disturb on from 12am to 11:59pm on, text messages are still popping up in the right hand corner.

And when my son logged on to the computer this morning, reminders from earlier where there.

Just for laughs, when you're in system preferences->notifications, do you have "none" selected for alert style, and also every box unchecked (show notifications, etc), for each app (calendar, FaceTime, etc)?

Just having do not disturb on should work, so that's bizarre. And just for laughs again, in the do not disturb section, you have the box checked next to the time frames, right?

If you've done all that and they're still popping up, I would bring it in to the apple store, because that's weird.

Notifications... "no alert" was selected for both messages and reminders. I went to everY]y other option (photos. iBooks. Etc... which had never alerted before) and changed to none.

Weirder part. The “do not disturb” I changed previously to 12pm to 11:59am was back to 10pm to 7am. Why???

Don’t really want to take the desktop to the Apple store. Would have to carry on public transportation. Hoping to get more suggestions to try here!

Just a odd thought... when I learned about time (quite a while ago) it was common knowledge that the 12 hour clock did not have places for 12 am or 12 pm... it was either 12 noon or 12 midnight...

11:59 was am before noon and 12: 01 was pm two minutes later. Similar for midnight... after all that was what AM and PM were... Ante Meridian and Post Meridian... before Noon or after Noon... Midnight was covered by that of course... but Noon was the big factor... since that was when time was set.

I'm not sure today's computers can handle 12am / pm at all well.

One reason I use 24 hour clock settings. And I use year / month /day for dates... enough of the random variants of month day or day month plus year... enough of confusing numeric dates by people... at least state the month in text... most people can figure out that 4 digits is the year and up to 2 digits is the day...

This is at least partly tongue in cheek... but it is a real subject... I'll refrain from picking on macs... since the subject is time.

I don't have a kid's acct on my Mac, but here are some things to look at (trouble-shooting in the dark, here) I made an acct in the Parental Controls area just to see what it looked like...

When you are in your child's acct, did you turn off all of the notifications in his system preferences?

When you logged in as him (into his acct) the first time, did you use your apple id? If so, and if you did not dis-allow messages (looks like a blue conversation balloon w/a smaller white balloon ...) in the Parental Controls->Limit Applications area, that might be why your stuff is showing up on his screen...

I also noticed that in Notifications you can drag/move applications that are directly listed under "In Notification Center" so that they are under "Not in Notification Center". After logging into his acct., try dragging all those applications down, so there is nothing left in the "Notification Center"

Hoping this fixed it!!! Thanks to your suggestion about notifications, I noticed an edit button. That didn’t work. But then there was a tiny symbol (like a slightly turned peace symbol) in the bottom right corner of notifications. I clicked on that and gave myself one time access. THAT was where I could uncheck reminders and messages. Not sure why I could uncheck those in his account from my account. AND had to go into his account to uncheck?!?

My guess is that his account was set up as some master account, though a different term was probably used. You'll need to research this to see how to switch it.

I've been using Firefox. I'm getting a new computer and am wondering if any of you computer gurus like another browser better.

Some choices depend on which operating system you have. Since you didn't say I'm assuming the one with the largest share, Microsoft Windows.

Personally, I use Chromium on Linux. Chrome is the same browser engine on other operating systems.

I'm happy with Safari. No complaints. I also have Chrome but rarely use it. I've just gotten used to Safari.

I think sometimes it can just be a matter of personal preference. People will swear by different browsers.

Here we go again. I installed MacGourmet Deluxe on this old Mac about 5 years ago. At some point I upgraded the software and then couldn't get my database to open. I was pretty miffed, because I had gotten rid of the paper recipe cards for just about all my recipes. The computer held my database hostage for over a year, when miraculously I clicked on a file and Voila! I reappeared. I don't remember how it happened. But it happened. Well, here I am again. This machine is 10 years old and I have a machine that I am carefully migrating only software I want to keep. I installed the MacGourmet Deluxe on my new machine, but I can't get the database to open up AGAIN!!! I've googled and I can't seem to get the answer to my predicament. Mariner Software appears to be having some problems, so I don't think I'll be getting an answer soon. Anyone out there use this software? Can anyone help me figure out how to open up the database?
