Our house is not in any danger, but the surrounding towns and parishes have had a lot of damage. I hope these links work. You may have to cut and paste the link.

Schools are closed and government offices are closed. People have been told to stay home and off the road. Evacuations are beginning in some areas.

My daughter and grandsons are being evacuated now. It is so hard to be so far away. Please pray for everyone in this mess.

Just wanted you all to know that we are high and dry in all of this devastating flooding.

I am hoping the same is true for the rest of you.

Take care,

BlackBerrypatch here,

I'm just seeing this as we are preparing to move in 4 months. Our home flooded and we lost everything. The flood was something here in Central, Louisiana. We are well, but displaced and extremely tired. We found a place to rent for now. We were homeless for several months. It was strange to see 21 years of marriage on the curbside, in front of our home.
We are selling the home we lived in for 11 years. It would be hard to rebuild it, and we intended to buy a new home now that we are both finished with our educations. Our kids are leaving for college in April so we've decided to move out west. We are looking for rental property out there until we can buy, relocate, and find work.
I hope the rest of you are well. I loved getting to know you all. If I don't see you before we leave for the mountains please visit us anytime!
Kindly,
Blackberry Patch

I'm so sorry for all your soggy troubles. We were lucky to escape flood damage. Two more miles further down the road and we'd have been in a big mess.

We hate to see you go, Blackberry Patch, but wish you the best and a happy life in the west. Maybe our paths will cross again on the trail somewhere.

I'm in the same place. North Louisiana about 30 miles from the Arkansas border. Let me know if you come this way. There are several new, good letter boxes.

I will. When my husband leaves for Utah I'll be here with my two kids, we may make a few trips before we leave the state.

I've been off the grid for a while. I'd like to see you before you move, if that's possible.

If you still have my other contact info, get in touch with me. I've lost most of my contacts in a computer mess.

So sorry to hear that you all flooded. We stayed dry, but we have many friends who did not and have spent time helping them recover. What a chapter in the history of this area!

I'd like to stay in touch.

We're visiting Louisiana this coming weekend on a very short trip to the Gulf. I plan to plant as many letterboxes along the way as my family will tolerate. I'll feel very lucky if that # equals three, which is also the number I've carved specifically for the state. *fingers crossed*

Hopefully near LaPlace, as werk sometimes takes us there...

I should have some ready to go for there anyway, so shame on me.

Hey, y'all!
I jumped on board with letterboxing several years ago. I loved it and planned on sticking with it for the long term. But life. Anywho, I have picked up my little ladybug stamp and I'm back on the trail. A shout out to Acorns4u, for helping to draw me out of weeds. ;-) I appreciate your new boxes, planted right in the middle of my stomping grounds.
I plan to do a little carving, too.
Hopefully, we will meet on the trail soon.

My noxer (but indulgent) hubby and I will be visiting New Orleans next week for just a few days. I would love suggestions on boxes as well as restaurants, bars, tours, etc.

Looking forward to visiting such an intriguing city!

I visited New Orleans last year and did a little boxing while there. If you're up for some sightseeing while boxing, I would recommend Six Feet Above and Southern Sweets in the Garden District. Both fun plants! I took the street car down to the Garden District, great option!

Off the beaten path, I suggest Jacques Imo's (http://jacques-imos.com/). Drago's in Metarie is quite good as well.

And maybe there is a Gumbo Nightmare nearby...

I second the Jacques-Imos suggestion. It’s my favorite restaurant in Nola (and we lived there for five years.)

Drago's -- especially the oyster bar -- is a favorite stop of ours.

Red Fish Grill, Deanie's, and Mr. B's Bistro are also wonderful.

The double chocolate bread pudding at Red Fish Grill (first block of Bourbon off Canal) is a MUST. My husband and I get it once a year.

If you are interested in learning about Mardi Gras at all, a visit to Mardi Gras World is fun and informative (and you'll get a piece of king cake out of season!). They have free shuttle pickups several places in town.

Shopping on Royal Street in the French Quarter is fun- antiques, art, kitchy stores, pralines, not super touristy.

Ghost tours/cemetery tours/historic tours of all kinds are available, even at the last minute. Well worth the price. Competition to be a tour guide is fierce, so you have to be on your game to get that gig.

New Orleans is home of the cocktail, and the best place (imo) is the Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone (Royal Street, 2 blocks off Canal). Their signature cocktails are delicious and creative, and the bar rotates (one full rotation every 15 minutes). If you're lucky, Marvin will be serving- he's my favorite bartender.

Enjoy! It's a magical city!

When will y'all be in NOLA? The Crabby Ol' Man and I are currently here. I've been here since the first of Nov, on a 13 week assignment but he only just got here a few days ago so we haven't had a chance to get out and box or explore yet.

My daughter (also a 'boxer) has an opportunity to spend the summer doing undergrad sciency-stuff at the University of New Orleans. I may be visiting to help her get "settled in" (read: I've never been to NOLA so this is a great opportunity to have some fun), the first weekend of June.

Any local boxers still active? Suggestions for great boxes, and (in general) places to visit? Daughter will be there 2 months (and will want to do some boxing of course), but I only have a few days. Thanks!!!
