Rings of postals are found under the Tracker section. Be aware that there is quite a commitment. About $3 per postal, and if there's 10 people in a ring, that means $30 plus, you need to carve a stamp for some of them, and be timely. I found it was not my cup of tea.. The thing I like about trace the stamp, cut & glue, it that you can stamp the stamp image on the back of the foam. You can't do that when the stamp is glued before you cut. I am going to give the glue then cut a try. Thanks :)

The update so far is very critical.

He was hanging in there and there seemed to be minimal kidney and lung damage, which seemed miraculous, but he is not waking up as hoped, and there is no response to most pain stimuli. Continued prayers are appreciated. Please see his Facebook Page, Tyler's Troopers, to show support.

I've never had occasion to use it on the trail (yet), but I've heard it at letterboxing events because it is related to one of my personal travelers.

The Hunley was good, but not sure it it is still there or accessible.

It depends. My first postals have been micro-postals. The stamp is carved thin and the logbook is also thing. This means that the postal can be sent in a regular envelope with a single Forever stamp. If you want to start with postals then look for these.

I'm in my first regular postal now, because I got into the micro-postals.

I very much agree. I've done many of these. It is fun to see what you can do that meets the theme. It's fun to see what others have done. You'll learn a lot of new techniques by seeing them.

There's even a group that will send LTCs to newbies. Someone will post with who to contact about this.

I even had some questions about embossing that was being discussed on these forums so some people sent me some examples. Look up embossing in the glossary, but it is basically stamping the card, putting embossing powder on it (which sticks only to the inked portion) then using a heat tool to melt the powder onto the card. It makes for neat cards and you should try it some time.

Heat guns aren't too expensive. Here are some from Amazon and Harbor Freight. I use this one.

I'm going to a conference in downtown Houston in April. The letterboxing looks pretty thin on the ground.

And just how bad is the driving? I have the chance to stay with someone for free near Hobby airport but I'd have to drive right into the heart of the city every day. Is that reasonable or will I end up dancing on the roof of my rental?

Just a friendly reminder that it is not necessary to supply a new padded envelope for a postal letterbox unless the one you receive is falling apart and not reparable. When they are covered with clear packing tape, most envelopes will last throughout the entire route of mailings. In addition, the owner usually puts her/his address under the clear tape so if the current addressee mailing label that covers it comes off, the P.O. will get it to the owner.

It was so nice today that I tried desperately to go letterboxing. First attempt started at a school and there was zero parking available so I'll try that on a non-school day next time. Next stop, the access road was closed for construction and I didn't think hiking the 2 miles to get to the 2 mile hike was going to get me home in time to pick Hippo up from school. Next stop, the trail was too icy and steep for safe travel. Next stop, still too icy and if I slid I was likely going to fall about 20 feet to craggy rocks. Next stop, there are now multiple "private property" and "no trespassing" signs and it was a high traffic area so I skipped. Next stop my car couldn't handle the muddy mountain road, so for safety sake I turned around and finally gave up.

At least I got out of the house and tried, right?

A+ for trying !! 50's in Maine as well and had good luck with some coastal boxing yesterday. Better days are a coming !!!

I carry a pair of Kahtoola Microspikes in my pack this time of year. I was out on a steep icy trail all day yesterday and they were priceless. You can walk across a sheet of ice as if it were asphalt.

When we go to Charleston we stay in Mt. Pleasant. Many great places to eat. It is a quick trip across the bridge to downtown. There are boxes in that area as well. Most boxes in Charleston are left by people on vacation.

Earlier this evening, I had planned to stamp into a few postals we had. I announced to my 3 and 5 year old boys that we'd be doing some Letterboxing after dinner and they automatically ran to collect their shoes and jackets... Oops! Guess mom needs to clarify from now on ;)

Yes, you can glue in a piece of pink. I used contact cement. You put it on the slab and the little bit, and wait for the number of minutes instructed. Then connect the 2 parts.

That is awesome! I told my girls I got some letteboxes in the mail and they gave me the strangest looks. lol

You'll probably be a hop, skip and jump from Glenwood cemetery (beautiful cemetery) and not all that far from Memorial Park if you're looking for many boxes in a single location. There are many boxes scattered around in parks and cemeteries that are fun.

There is a large number of boxes concentrated in parks in the surrounding areas. It sort of depends on how far you're willing to drive, really, since Houston is practically big enough to be its own little country. How much time to you have to box?

We can do a mini meet & greet if you want to. I'll let someone else speak of the commute. I refuse to do it, and so far have been lucky enough to find jobs/housing that accommodate that conviction.
