You stand corrected, lol. Welcome back, good to see a familiar name back with the pack. I have fallen off, some what, since my bro, Safari Man, passed away in 2013, but still check in some now and then to read some favorite boards. I found this by looking at your profile recent messages, hee hee.....

If you do list all those old boxes, I'd suggest you post a notification after it's done. That'll give those of us who have them logged as unlisted finds can go and change that status.

Even better, of course, you could go through the records of who found them and send them personal invites to change their logs. Now that would be a lot of work!

BTW, be prepared for a lot of the find logs to have the CURRENT date rather than the date the box was actually found. There's something about the find logging here on AQ that makes finders forget to change that particular field to the correct date.

Thanks Kirbert! I think I will be listing them all (as retired), but not immediately, and not all at once... Thought I'd start with active boxes and travelers and then do the retired boxes as I have time, starting from the beginning (i.e. 2002 boxes first). I did a few last week, just to see how the process works, and I was surprised that people immediately logged them -- is there some kind of notification or watch they have -- how did they know I listed the boxes? I will consider some kind of notification, perhaps once they have all been listed.

I've been logging a few finds and your comment prompted me to look to make sure I set the dates... I did miss one!

A lot of us have searches set up to email us when new local boxes are listed. That is probably how people quickly found out about your new postings.

Hey Okie Dog! You got me there, thanks for digging that out! Things change...

I was just thinking about Glenn the other day... I am in a CD Postal ring that is all about AQ and one of the requirements is to include a song that is about a deceased letterboxer. Of course he was my first thought and I found a great song. It was a great loss to letterboxing, but I am sure for you and your family even more.

Thanks for the welcome back!

I knew because you posted the following message on one of the boards:

I've always just listed my boxes on LnBA and have decided to add the clues on AQ. How do I do a plant date prior to 2005, as that is the oldest date on the drop-down for plant date?

Thank you, springchick, for your reply. It is good advice. Fortunately, I was thinking of a certain place and there is only one linear clue, but the others are quite random. I will make sure my clue isn't dependent on them, as you suggested.
Scout Letterboxing resource website?
Board: GSA & BSA letterboxing

Thread Board
The Girl Scouts are once again asking me to do a booth at their annual troop roundup. I have done this a number of times to help educate them on our hobby and as a GS Gold Award recipient, I am happy to give back to this wonderful organization. However, I can't reach them all, more and more troops and packs are trying it out without much information, and frankly I am getting tired (of boxes being mistreated and of spending hours at these events and having it not seem to amount to much). I would like to do more of a train-the-trainer approach, but even that will never be available to everyone.

I have materials for leaders that others have helped me to compile and that many have asked me for, but emailing it to leaders is not very efficient, either.

As a web designer myself, I am thinking of putting these materials on a dedicated website that is easily found that could house resources and also have links to this discussion board. I have already done www.gatewayletterboxers.org, but I would target this one specifically for the keywords "scouts" and "letterboxing". Since I can host it myself, I only need to register the domain.

My question is: Is there already any sort of centrally located resource already out there (besides AQ, which unfortunately many scout leaders are not discovering)? I don't want to reinvent the wheel, nor do I have any need to "own" the information, so if I do it, I will post the URL here for you all to check out before it goes live.

Thanks for your input!

A quick Google search showed that there is not currently a website in existence that hits the top of the list like I am thinking of. So I am revising my question to whether or not there is already a project like this in the works and whether you think it would be helpful. There are some neat pages about it already out there that I would like to at least link to and perhaps vice versa. But one that I found had a picture of a letterbox in a Gladware container... the typical scout box that doesn't survive through the winter. I just hate for all those kids to be disappointed when their box does not fare well.

Okay! Well, Michaels online is out of color box, and only sells dew drops in combo packs, as far as I could tell (trying to navigate craft sites makes my head hurt!). Stampeaz did not have any metallic ink, and only had a red-gold embossing powder. I ordered from Joanns: they didn't have recollections embossing powder though, so I got ranger, and a dew drop gold ink pad.

So, I will try plain ink and give embossing another go (got lots of black ink pads!), and see which I like better. I also have used dryer sheets, cornstarch, and an iron.

Thanks, all!

Thanks for the input DM Scuba Brat that helped a lot. I think I will look into the Air 2. I knew I could count on all of my AQ friends to get a variety of honest opinions. That way I can make somewhat of an educated purchase.

This morning I logged 2 boxes that I found yesterday. I had JUST read this comment and I thought to myself, "have to remember to change the date when I log those boxes."

Yep, I logged them with today's date. :)

Anybody think this calls for a suggestion? One idea I can come up right off is to not have a default find date at all, you have to click on something or the page comes back with "no find date selected". That'd mean we'd all have to make one more click when logging a find ("Ow! My carpal tunnel!") but perhaps we wouldn't forget to change that date as often.

I attempted today to visit the Waterton Canyon Park (re: thread up above) and the park was closed until further notice. I have since found out that there has been several instances of bear human activity as well as a mother and two cubs along part of the trail. I guess it will reopen once the Bears move along. If anyone is hoping to do this trail in the next few weeks, you might want to call or Google to see if it has reopened. :-)

So, I had this sign printed up, and I installed it yesterday.

https://goo.gl/photos/eM4uN79Cgp7Rw13R6

So far it has worked! Nobody has parked in my spot.

It's been over a month, and NOBODY ELSE has parked in my spot!

However, in order to perpetuate the illusion of authenticity, I figured the "Employee of the Month" needed to change now that the month is over.
So...

Think anyone will notice?

That's hilarious . . . . but even funnier, I'm thinking, is that still no one will 'test' the sign, even IF they "notice".

premium members can put their own custom location to overwrite whatever the owner added

Ryan,

First of all, thank you for the option to overwrite whatever the owner put in. I just discovered that a couple months ago and it has helped a great deal.

Second, I know there are already two ways (aside from the override) to search -- one is by distance from a certain point, the other is by direction from a certain point. I'm wondering if there is a way that we can customize the search via a "click-and-drag" method?

An example of how this would help us would be Forest Park, St Louis, MO. There were several boxes at the JFK Trailhead in the park, several more at the "Jewel Box" in the park, still more at Steinberg Rink and so on.

My thinking, is if we had a way after pulling up our search results, to click on listing #9 and drag it up or down the list so that it would print with the other listings that are in the same section of the park? Of course this Click-and-Drag would work in many beneficial ways to group search results.

I think that would be a great tool for us who use the site regularly for clues.
