Made the final move to Poca today. Will probably be the fall before I have time to carve again.

There are more boxes here than you can shake a stick at. Anything in the Fairhaven area is fun because that's a great destination spot. Looks like someone just planted one at Rocket Donuts too, which is never a bad place to drop by. It's been awhile since I've been boxing locally, unfortunately. Let me look things over and recommend a favorite or two.

I'll be in the Portland/Vancouver Oregon area on business the end of August and I'm looking for quiltin' boxers (boxing quilters?). I'd like to find out about the best quilting stores around as I plan on getting some Row By Row patterns and license plates. Oh, and letterboxing some. Any suggestions?

We were also out at Crown Hill today. Didn't realize another letterboxer was around- would've been fun to meet up! It was a perfect day to letterbox- found 5 plus a HH!

Thanks!

They will tend to not carry them for most of the year, and then get a shipment right about now when people are harvesting their gardens.

Hello everyone! I am very new to letterboxing and I am so excited! My only problem is I have no idea how to carve a stamp to make my own boxes! I live 30 minutes out of Charleston, SC and there is so much history around me and only about 10 boxes within a 30 mile radius! I would LOVE it if someone could help me out with some stamps! I would greatly appreciate it!

Hey Yosemite!

Thank you WW for the heads up and thank you! You are too kind. :)

My favorite quilt store is Fiddlesticks. I can call around for you if you like and see who has what you are looking for. Let me know!

There's probably many more letterboxes but they have restrictions on them--you don't get to see them until you've planted a letterbox or until you've found a certain number of letterboxes. The reason for this is that letterboxes go missing if they are rehidden carelessly or other people see them being found. So some letterboxers restrict their boxes to more experienced letterboxers to try to protect their precioussssss. So find more boxes and the more you'll be able to find.

I get 50 letterboxes when I search Charleston, SC not counting boxes with an unknown status. I get 25 without restrictions.

Also go to toolbox and check out the tutorials. I know I got really excited when I saw instructions on how to carve rubber stamps.

Aww. Sorry you lost another stamp. =( I was considering heading out that way earlier. I was leaning toward grabbing the two by Team Mac that are on my list. However, there were time constraints. =/

I live in a town outside of Charleston. I use Charleston as a reference. I live in Bethera near Jamestown, SC and there are hardly no boxes near me. My aunt has over a 1,000 finds and she finds just as many as me.

If you plant them, they will come. Just start carving! Each stamp you do will be just a little better than the one before it. Take a coupon to your nearest craft store, check the block printing section for a speedball starter kit (http://www.michaels.com/10288838.html#q=speedball&start=19) and hop to it!

For starter images to carve, search google images to clip art, coloring pages or silhouettes. You can do it!

Thanks for the recommendation! A bunch of quilt stores in the area are offering Row By Row patterns, but I won't be able to hit them all. Fiddlesticks is on the list!

I boxed with you and Kurious Jo a few years ago in the Gorge area. We can see closer to time if we both can go boxing or meet at Fiddlesticks to say hi.

I would recommend that you go to this event if you can. Figureeight is one of the best carvers in your state and is usually more than happy to show people how to carve and make logbooks (he is an amazing logbook maker too!).

What kind of paper is in these coloring books?

I would recommend Prismascolor colored pencils. They're expensive, so use a coupon. But they give much nicer, smoother, richer look than Crayola. Michaels and Hobby Lobby Sell them.

If the paper is thick enough, then I would recommend good water based markers. You could try Crayola, but you may get lots of lines. Tombow is a nice brand, and you can blend the color with water. But the paper has to be able to take wet media.

Don't use Copic markers or Sharpies, as they bleed through.

Here's what was recommended.
http://www.wendypiersall.com/how-to-color/

What I find funny is they don't recommend Sharpies because they bleed. (Maybe she means they feather). Copic markers, she recommends, but Copic markers will bleed through the paper. For sure... maybe buy one single marker and try it. But also make sure you get a tiny point marker for those books with tiny details.

I have the Ink tense pencils, too. They need to be blended with water to look good. A set of 36 of any colored pencil brand is enough colors.

Gelly Roll pens are fun, but they don't last long. Just a warning.
