Best I can figure, the few people who seem to continually log in manually even if they select the box requesting otherwise, it's a browser thing. Best I can figure, it's not overwriting the old cookie with the new one AQ wants to write.

So, I just changed the name of the cookie. =) This means, of course, everyone will have to log in manually once more. But since there's no old cookie to conflict with, I'm hoping that will solve people's log in woes.

Happy trails!

and look at the map on the second page.... look at the top left corner of the map where it says "Lake Wylie".....

it's the picnic shelter that says "Picnic Shelter". It's the only one "THEY" call a picnic shelter although every single little deck with a picnic table is numbered.

Just a note, I have seen several new letterboxes in the Seattle area with stamps made from Art Gum Erasers. These are worse than Speedy-Cut, they crumble immediately. They crumble as you press them on the ink pad to stamp them, they crumble when you stamp them, they crumble when you place them in the ziplock bag. They are horrible!

If you want to use a cheap eraser, go to the dollar store and get the HARD plastic ones!! Or from the Art Supply/Michaels stores use the Staedtler Eraser. It is white and hard and is usually anywhere from 70 cents to 99 cents for one eraser. Just be careful which side you carve on because there is a raised logo on the Staedtler Eraser that can mess up your stamp image.

Just want to remind everyone to check to see which of our illustrious attendees may have Personal Travelers. For those who may have missed the memo, these are special letterboxes that LBers carry with them. Clues are posted on AQ and LbNA. Sometimes it's a puzzle to solve; other times you just have to ask for the stamp.

I, for one, have two PTs that go with me everywhere. The clues are posted on AQ.

Minor annoyance .... printing clues spits out extra page

No hurry on this one...

When I print a clue, I get an additional page that has "Menubar" left justified on line 1 and "Page 1 of 1" right justiied on line 1. The remainder of the page is blank except for the very bottom line. That has:
left justified where "nnnn" appears to be an internal identifier for the box name that we see. and right justified on the same last line is the date in short form 10/2/2005

Just thought you'd want to know.

Thanks for the dedication to AQ ...

I also received a very nice acknowledgement from the WA trails association and was very disappointed in what it revealed about the abysmal participation by AQ members in supporting your hiking efforts. I'm looking forward to receiving the mag.

Yeah, I'll have to see what I can do about that. The clue pages use frames so I can still give people the option of logging finds or viewing the cached version of a clue if the actual clue won't load, but frames do tend to complicate the printing process.

Make sure when you print, so give the focus to the frame with the clue and be sure to print only "The selected frame"

Eventually I hope to figure out a way where it'll automatically print out JUST that frame, but for now, all modern browsers will allow you to print out just the clue page. Just make sure to select the frame you want to print and print *only* that! =)

So far as I know, yes, you've got such bragging rights. How does it work? =) One of the things on my to-do list is a PDA-friendly version of the site. AQ is a pretty small, fast-loading website, but even AQ would be pushing it on a PDA, I'd imagine!

Congrats, Max...on being the first PDA for AQ! Of course those pesky geocachers have been hooked up for years. When I first started geocaching, I never got a FF because of these 2 retired guys in my side of town with their PDAs...they ALWAYS were there first after receiving a notification of a new cache in the area. Not the reason I switched to letterboxing...but it was kinda sad that none of the other geocachers in this area ever got to be first!

I was hoping to see a letterboxer use one so I could let them play guinea pig. Let us know how it works out!

Then there's one with a chick wearing glasses and with a book open in front of her that says, "Chick with Brains."

I saw one yesterday with the slogan emblazoned across the girl's chest. It said, "Not EVERYTHING in Kansas is Flat."

I love T shirt slogans.

Make that the first PDA "post" on AQ. I have logged into AQ a few times from my Blackberry while on the trail to get a clue! Imagine scrolling through every menu choice across the top of the screen, one at a time, to finally get down to the info you want. Still, in the middle of nowhere, it works.

Then I had to Google search for Knight's of Columbo's dang @#$% Scooby trivia clues that I forgot to look up ahead of time. "OK, Blackberry Google says we go left here."

Even more fun is the LBNA main clue site. If the map loads you have to scroll the cursor through every state on the map to get to where you want. No touch screen, you know. But again, it works, even though Blackberries are dreadful at this.

Anyone tried this on a Treo?

A mobile interface would be cool.

Sorry to disappoint, but I've logged in several times on my PDA. My Clie has WIFI capability. It has worked very nicely a time or two when I have saved clues from LBNA to be accessed offline. I also found it didn't feel quite as conspicuous looking at a PDA as a map or clue sheet--although I guess I could have looked like a geocacher using GPS. I haven't tried looking up clues yet on AQ using my PDA.

As to how AQ worked. It worked better the first times I tried to access AQ. After it changed to use more drop down menus, the website displayed all of the choices superimposed over the page. It looked pretty funny. I'm not sure if it still does that. It's been a while since I tried. I tried to enter new clues on my PDA. I would get into some of the pages, but others wouldn't work. I kept having to go back and forth between pages to reload where I had been at and try again and eventually the pages would come up correctly. I finally gave up trying b/c my flight was coming in.

I will have to try again sometime somewhere else and see if it could have had anything to do with the strange browser service I was using at the airport. Maybe the pages work differently now. Even then, I could read most of the pages, but posting a clue was way too cumbersome. I will try to access it again sometime and see if it works any differently now.
