Maybe I can do a flat rate box, with a flat rate grab bag. Small box $xx and $5ish to ship? And what ever fits, ships. Then do a couple other sizes.

Any other interest? I can have more details Monday when the postoffice is open and I can get a few box sizes to see what will fit.

:)

Do not use a flat rate box. The smallest one, which can hold a couple of paperbacks is $5.95 to ship. The next size up is $12.65 & the large is $17.90

If you ship, use your own boxes & tell them you want MEDIA MAIL. Current MEDIA MAIL rates:
1 pound 2.69
2 pounds 3.17
3 pounds 3.65
4 pounds 4.13
5 pounds 4.61
6 pounds 5.09
7 pounds 5.57
8 pounds 6.03
9 pounds 6.49
10 pounds 6.95
11 pounds 7.41
12 pounds 7.87
13 pounds 8.33
14 pounds 8.79
15 pounds 9.25

Nothing more than $2 apiece.

DVD/CD's $2
Hardback books $1
Puzzles $1
Paperbacks .50
Magazines .10
Toys - $1-2 (yes we even have them available for library checkout).

I guess our Friends-sponsored sale is BIG. Last year we celebrated 150-years in existence as a public library. The last day of the next big sale marks these prices down 50%. And maybe $2 for as many as you can stuff in a brown grocery sack.

I love my library!

Those are around the prices we set. We have a little bookshelf in the library for books to buy. Our library is only 26 years old, as it was a small community for such a long time. It is now starting to grow rapidly and I am hoping the library can keep up! We are completely dependent on all donations, so it makes a huge difference!

Never even knew those existed. Does it matter the size of the box? I don't have many small ones, but I can see what I can find.

I used liquor boxes (free from the liquor store) to move my books cross-country from NC to WA. MEDIA MAIL. The rule is only books ---not even a letter inside.
So that is about the largest box I did, and really any larger and it gets crazy heavy

Seriously, the only Nancy Drew books that are NOT worth any money (a dime a dozen) are the glossy "flashlight" versions. The older yellowback ones from the 1970's are worth something. And the lavender ones that were made especially for libraries are also worth money. The problem is that you guys don't know your market. Get some Nancy Drew collectors in there and we will wipe you out. And we especially like when the seller thinks the books are a dime a dozen. I will give you a dollar for that dozen (LOL)

Make a Grab Box of all those children's books and I will take them off your hands.
And whoever mentioned craigslist that is a great idea too. Set up your boxes ---themes are good.....mysteries, romance, fiction/ non fiction....travel....cookbooks etc etc and offer them $10 a box.

Our local used book emporium does a sale every year. You bring in a paper grocery bag. Whatever books you can fit in your grocery bag you get for $10. They get rid of EVERYTHING

Nancy Drew books - I have some of everything. Yeah, the glossy yellow and the matte yellow, some paperback, but I also have green ones - 1950s. Just her silhouette on the cover with the title. I was offered $1.00 a book. Not that I'd ever part with them. It's kind of a family tradition to keep them. They are in all different states of conditions.

I found girl scout cookie boxes, and I can get about 14 pounds of books in each one. That is almost $9 to ship. And that's about 14 books. So, not sure if I should look for smaller boxes, or go with that for a $15 donation to the library plus the $ to ship.

Sorry I seems so unsure. I have never done this before.

Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks for all the help so far!

Does anyone else have any better ideas?

My apologies if this has been mentioned but check your local Facebook pages. Where I am there are several 'Online Yard Sale' groups that you can join and as long as you post pics of the items you're trying to sell and where you are located/willing to meet (general town). Some groups may have slightly different rules but they're usually pinned to the top of the news feed within the group.

I've used this method to sell a few books and a stereo just recently, worked out pretty good and may try it again if a real yard sale can't happen soon!

I have the books in "lots", so I'll offer here first, then list them elsewhere.

Thanks!

I have a whole lot of hard-back Folio Society books from England that I need to sell for medical bills, but don't know where to start. It's really hard to part with them. Can't even find time to sit down and write the titles down, let alone read them. I'm thinking maybe there's a list online of the ones I have. Maybe Friday I can check that on on my day off between all my other day-off chores. Also have to figure out how to handicap remodel my bathroom in the next month before Glynn maybe comes home from the hospital. Just yesterday he started looking better. They took off the heart monitors and moved him out of intermediate care and started PT. A couple more weeks I think before they fit him with a prosthesis.

I also, have a box of old textbooks. There are arthimatic, English, reading, and science books. Some of the reading books are illustrated. Dates from 1890 - 1950s.

All money will go to our library to help keep it open. It operates on 100% donations.

Thanks!

So glad to hear he is doing well and will come home. :)
I know it's going to be a hard adjustment.

For your books, try Biblio.com to see what other booksellers are listing them for. only thing is, it might take a while to find a buyer. eBay might be your best bet for listing them for sale. Or see if there is a used book seller in your town that will buy them from you. That way, you won't have to keep up with them. You won't get full asking price, but then you won't have to store them either.

Virtual hugs to you!

Ok, don't know where to post this… so here it goes!

Our Habitat for Humanity ReStore got a ton of pottery pieces signed "P. Silkotch". There's canisters, pie plate with a dome, teapot… 31 pieces in all. I can't find a thing online other than one canister on Etsy and a defunct importer that won't respond to a FB message. It's painted with a fruit pattern and is quite lovely. I just need to have an idea of what it is worth. It would be an amazing wedding gift or something. Just running out of avenues to get some info!

There are a bunch on Ebay, but when I look for sold ones, I don't see any.....Ebay can sometimes have inflated prices and that is not really what the pieces will sell for.....When I look on Ebay, I always look at what the things have actually sold for...this tells you what people are going to pay for something. I had a bunch of Lilliput Lane houses that my mom collected, people would tell you, oh, they are worth $50 or more....but try to sell them and no one will pay that.....but they would pay $25. Depending on the house and if it was mint in box etc etc. So take the prices on ebay with a grain of salt.

Yup, you got about as far as I did! I even tried to FB message and friend request Bill Loftin. No response. The "fruits" pitcher pic you posted seems to be the pattern. Just for the sheer volume of pieces, it is worth something. I got ahold of it because I run our silent auction and the staff thought it might make a good auction item. 31 pieces is a lot to move though!! All in all it is:

Cake plate w/dome
Pie pan w/dome
Tall canister w/lid
Rectangular tray
3 canisters w/lids
Divided "chip and dip" platter
large oval platter
Deep bowl
Gravy and saucer
Teapot /lid
Round casserole w/lid
Sugar/lid + creamer
Square casserole
Rectangular casserole
spoon rest
Napkin holder
2 candlesticks

It is quite impressive all together… just useless if I can't get something out of it for Habitat!

I have considered it.
I really don't have the space to store them long term. I'd rather get rid of them. I already have to go back to the library today to pick up another carfull of books.

How long does it usually take to sell them? Any helpful tips? Maybe I'll try it with a few and see how it goes...

Thanks!

You decide how long you want to post them. It is usually costs 35 cents to list them. You never know how much you will get. I sold a Disney pin I had bought for $6.00 and it sold on EBay a few years for $170.00

I think the default for ebay auctions is one week. But you can extend that or make it only 3 days. Craigslist might also be an option, depending on where you are located. Here in Seattle, Craigslist gets huge turnover. And I sold a ton of stuff when my mom died on craigslist, especially large things that were not practical to mail.

I listed on a facebook page for local selling that I had a bunch of books for $1 a piece. These are ones that are very worn, ripped pages or are common. I am setting some aside that are of a little more value. I have some textbooks with lovely illustrations in them. They are children's reading textbooks, and I have a few of them. One I saw listed for $12.

Not sure if I want to hassle with eBay still. I might have to open up a little bookstore! ;) I have enough books.... I am considering placing a table up at the library and having a mini book sale after hours on a weekend day. But I might need more preparation for that, so I can advertise it better... Next year for sure!

Any and all ideas welcomed! Thanks!
