Why, oh why is the "find page" on boxes changed? I don't like it at all. Why does everything have to change? There was nothing wrong with the old look. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The whole chicungunya (probably spelled sooooo wrong) mosquito virus (?) really freaks me out too, especially living in Florida.

What is all this I hear about chimichangas? Aren't we supposed to be biting them?

Now, on those larger series, can we have a sort option by trail name, omitting date found? This way on one line we can see how people have done on those large series and what boxes were not found?

I guess I need to start changing when I log miles on my last day of the week and the month. I normally log my miles the morning after.

Today I logged for July 31st and there are no longer any monthly statistics for me to peruse.

I went back to my daily walking log and selected July 31st hoping the monthly stats would be there but they seem to be lost forever.

This happens at the end of the walking week too. On Sunday morning when I log Saturday's miles there are no stats for me to see my weekly progress.

Just wondering if I can play with the site a bit to show me those stats just one more day.

Lava Girl,

As a former microbiologist, this horrifies me, too. I think this is all about US ego, and I don't think they should be evacuating people with such a virulent and deadly virus. As another friend of mine, who works in healthcare safety, also pointed out, it was a special exception to Liberia closing it's borders. So anyone with enough clout, and a "special enough" case can just be allowed out? It doesn't seem fair.

I pray they can contain it. It is not the same as keeping a little vial that is already inside a level 4 CDC lab contained. It is a person in some kind of bubble contraption, in an airplane. Gosh, I wouldn't even want to touch Tue airplane after they were in it.

Also, although tuenUS may be able to treat this person better, because they already know what is going on, IF a disease like this breaks out in the US, our general physicians are not accustomed to detecting it, our labs in regular hospitals don't regularly screen for it, and many tropical infectious diseases have to have samples or cultures sent out to State Health Departments or even the CDC, for identification. That takes a long time.

When my son caught Typhoid and Amoebiasis in the Philippines 4 years ago, it took the Philippines hospital 2 hours to diagnose typhoid (takes up to 2 weeks in the US). This is because we don't see it a pot and we have to send our cultures out for final results. We can only get a preliminary ID, which takes a few days. There, they are so used to seeing it, it is included as a blood test in their basic emergency room diarrhea screen.

Then when we came back to the US, the pedi here had NO idea how to follow up on it. He couldn't even get a hold of an Infectious Disease doctor that knew what to do, because here we deal with MRSA, CDiff and VRE, not typhoid.

So my worry is not the CDC, but if it spread, the general practitioners can't diagnose and contain it quickly enough.

I don't like it at all.

A lot of people make HHs, and then later forget or just don't bother, to create listings for them. I used to email the owners, but now I don't bother.

if you were a premium member, you could log unlisted boxes, otherwise you can wait for Hat Day, which occurs a few times a year, and list it. Hat Day is a day when the theme changes to all hats on your screen. It is a freebie, everyone can log unlisted finds, day.

There may be a few slabs of the SLQ up for raffle items. My husband has already warned me not to buy any extra to attempt to sell, though. He doesn't want to be stuck with it, and I don't want to start a mail order business. It all has to be prepaid, except that I will donate a few pieces, and anyone who wants to donate a few bucks, or donate one of their slabs, that would be cool, too.

What's most gross about this is I suspect these two people are going to be nothing but medical guinea pigs. This is just an excuse to get them over here and poke and prod and try to experiment and examine. From what I understand, all they can really do is try to provide basic treatment of the symptoms and give lots of fluids and painkillers, etc. They can already do that there and are already doing that there. Given the terrible nature of this disease, I wish they'd keep it localized. Still, if these two do come home? I hope they beat it. It's such an enormous risk to take, I really do hope it pays off.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. There has to be more to this story.

It could be that they are being moved for safety for many, did someone expose them on purpose, is there a new type of terrorists response, etc. has to be more....

.....having been in a lab and knowing that things were not always what they seem. I agree it is alarming, but the reasons have to be great.

What don't we know.....

we're staying at Chop Gate, turns out!! AND it also turns out we're starting in Robin's Hood Bay. (Wouldn't you know the Yanks do things backwards; we never have been good at following directions). Actually it has to do with Mr. Umbrella's bad knees and giving him time to get in shape before we hit Kidsty Pike. We're leaving the Lakes for last.

i have that post bookmarked. Are all those boxes listed on AQ? or are they listed somewhere i just don't know how to look them up?? i was just gonna rummage a bit, sort of Dartmoor style, but that might be rude??

And we're coming end of next August. In case you wanted to know. . .

I will have to try the watermark ink in the future. that sounds interesting.

I was suspicious it was the paper too. I was wondering if it was a different brand of watercolor paper than I used the last time.

I ended up trying to use what I had on hand. I was trying to use cocoa bean brilliance with a darker brown embossing powder on white watercolor paper. I switched to the clear embossing powder that I forgot I had and suddenly it started working. I never would have thought that the weakest link was the powder. So strange. Anyway, these cards are starting to look pretty good considering my dull gouge and embossing difficulties. :)

Now, anyone have any ideas on borders? I want a frame sorta look to go over the picture. Is my only choice to hand cut something or does someone have a better suggestion? I don't have any die cutters, punches or anything.

BTW you guys rock. I never had anyone to chat with about my crazy crafty conundrums. It's nice that I can chat with people who have opinions.

We will be in the Atlanta area for a couple days. If anyone could stand for a meetup, it would be fun to meet. Send me an AQ message if I am passing near by. I don't know when we will be where.

I have cross posted this in each state we are passing through.

Interesting theory....

I was also thinking, if they are in critical condition, sounds likely they will die, anyway. But I hadn't considered that they might try to make vaccines or something from them. Hmm.

Of course, I approve of vaccines being researched, but it still bothers me, all the unknowns. And of course they wouldn't announce their intentions if that is the case. I have to trust the CDC on this one, but it is still scary to me.

Hate to be a pessimist, but I read The Coming Plague and Ebola is awful. The stuff of nightmares and Hollywood movies. I have considered making a letterbox series based on it. I even purchased some items for props! Now I guess I might wait a bit on that!

for borders i always use 2 pieces of paper. the background piece (the one you want your border to be) cut to the standard size 2.5 x 3.5. then the front piece with your stamp image will be cut smaller depending on how big you want the border 2 x 3 or whatever. this makes a border without having to actually cut one out with exacto knife. hope this helps!

heres a pic of some of mine i did this with http://www.atlasquest.com/images/gallery/12/91/129131lg.jpg

Floridafour- Great points!

PiggyJaunt- I suspect you are correct. I'm pretty sure the CDC in Atlanta has some special exerperimental treatments up there sleeve for this which have not been tested. This would be a great way for them to get two guinee pigs to try their theories out on. Also, my concerns about bringing this to the U.S. and the disease spreading aside, I find it very concerning that patiens with the potential to hemmorage would be put on such long flights. The changes in air pressure and being in the air that long could potentially sign their death certificates if they enter the hemoragatic phase of the disease. I think it would be much safer for them and for the U.S. to keep them in quarantine where they are and fly in any kind of special equipment, doctors, treatments, units of blood, etc. to provide more support in the hopes that they might survive this.

Welcome! Send AQ mail to SouthernOracle. She is in JAX and is really nice. I wish you were in Palm Beach County. We hardly have any boxers here.

My best advice is to go to the craft/art supply store and get a sketch book to use as a log book. I was so excited to start letterboxing that I used a really small notebook as my first log book and I now wish I knew what sort of logbook would hold up best over time when I first started. You can use markers to ink stamps too. I did not know that till I started letterboxing. You can also use a store bought stamp to start as your signature stamp; but, I highly reccomend you get some carving material and try your hand an making your own stamp. I am SO not artistic and I have learned to make some half way decent stamps by using image transfer methods so it is more like tracing wiht a knife to carve rather than just staring at a blank piece of rubber and trying to make something amazing.
