Advice - in case you don't already do this.
It is a fantastic idea to label the carve by title, planter, carver, date and where it is found. Makes it easier when going through them

One more tip, I only stamp on the right side of my book. On the left side I often make notes like if we were on a day trip or out of town, something funny my son might have said or done, if we really enjoyed the location, who we were boxing with, how many boxes found that day if notable, etc. Looking back on the books I have from 2009 I'm glad I have taken the time to do this becuase the books have become mini family journals now too. :)

Thanks for this great tip, I will use it in my next logbook. I also have the problem of some of the ink showing through the page, so this would eliminate the problem.
I often box with my 7 & 8 year old granddaughters and it would be fun to have them sign the page and track their handwriting. They can do a little journaling also and we will have record of our time together.

Snow body knows our back pain.....
Holy Cats wearing teacups as hats, Batman, has winter finally dropped on us?
Had to go to church this morning, which was fine, but on the way home my windshield wipers broke. Yay! So as the blinding snow falls, I am straining to see and trying to keep the car under control. Then I get home to find one of my idiot neighbors had only enough of the alley plowed for him by pushing it into the middle for the rest of us. The problem is, that we are at the very end of a dead end alley. So if one person screws it up, the rest of us suffer. So of course I get stuck and have to dig out my car and get it into the garage. My hubby, thankfully, will get my replacement wiper. But we still had to dig out everything else for about 2 hours and it's still coming down! Yech!

That is one thing we are not going to miss. The company I work for just moved us to Mississippi. It was 64 today.

My son just moved from Mississippi to New Jersey. He lived there for 2 years. I visited him from Michigan several times over the two years. Springtime was amazing. But July and August...well, that's another story.
I found several Mississippi boxes while visiting. There is so much culture and history there! Enjoy.
I'm watching the weather from my window and wondering if I'm going to get a phone call that I won't be teaching tomorrow.

Come join us in St. Louis on August. 29 for a special letterboxing event-- Tombstone Tales--which is being held in at historical Bellefontaine cemetery. We are working with the cemetery curators to offer 15 drive by boxes that celebrate famous interns such as William Clark, Aldolphus Busch, and many more. Another drive by series of 15 will provide insight into the tombstone icons and their meanings. A beautiful, air conditioned non-denominational chapel will be available for a 2 hour meet and greet lunch, along with event boxes and exchanges. Top notch carvings! Hope you'll join us.

We love Harmonie SP in New Harmony, Indiana. It has this cool Blue Diamond series and several (14?) other boxes. The small, unique, historic town of New Harmony has some boxes too. Have a good trip :)

I'm presuming you've already used the Advanced Search to check out the areas around some of the larger towns. Our state parks don't allow letterboxes, or at least haven't until just recently, so there aren't many in those parks. The county parks, however, have some nice concentrations of boxes around Burlington, Washington, the Quad Cities, and in the Iowa City / Cedar Rapids area. There is also a concentration of boxes around Council Bluffs on the western side of the state.

Hey guys,
We can not get enough of the starved rock area. That along with Matthiessen State Park would make for a beautiful trip. The area is chalked full of boxes (even a toaster).
Good luck

A cautionary tale...I was up in Killingly on Thursday --visited a few places for some letterboxing and geocaching--DID see a poison ivy note with at least one set of clues, did NOT actually lay eyes on any "leaves of three". Friday I noticed the first bubbles on my wrist, today I have a patch on my wrist, and spots an my arm and between my fingers :-( I was in an area where some brush removal had occurred--guessing I grabbed a broken vine and got the sap on me. Beware!

I feel for you. I actually got poison ivy in February when there was snow on the ground. The snow covered a patch of vines and my foot got stuck and I ended up with a rash on my lower leg. Guess it doesn't matter the time of year.
Hope it passes quickly.

Try Lincoln State Park in Lincoln City, IN. You can pick up a little history as well as some beautiful boxes. They are more recently planted than the ones in Dover, TN and New Harmony, IN area. Those boxes in both areas were good, but how many are still there?
