And, don't ever check your logbook in your luggage, on the same principle. You can replace your clothes, shoes, and makeup, but your logbook cannot be replaced so easily. Ever since a letterboxer in my area had his luggage lost by an airline, my logbook has travelled in my carry-on bag.

Ohh good point. I had jewelry stolen from checked bags before. Surely airline staff aren't interested in my logbook... ;) I think I might go put that in my backpack now just in case....

Also- So I had an idea for a stamp that would be fun to bring and plant....and I may or may not have started carving it at 1am last night. Then this morning I actually packed, and while waiting for the dryer to finish with my last bit of clothing.... I also carved a HH.....

I'll sleep on the plane.

I think a snake bite would be kind of bada$$

As someone who has sustained a southern snake bite (that rule? about using a stick first?? All it does is wake the damned things up ANGRY!!), fortunately, not a poisonous one.....I think I'll forego being bada$$......thanks!

we are going to Grateful Letterboxing in Andover, MA for 10 days, in our camper. we leave in 2 days. one would think i would have planned meals, gathered meds, packed camping supplies, etc. No.

the only meal i've planned is the one on Wednesday for 30 people. they're kinda expecting it.

what is currently in the camper (that doesn't normally live there):
LTC's to trade, my letterboxing bag, boots, all the nightboxing stamps and seriously cool series plant stuff, the other series i'm planting at our campsite, every clue in Harold Parker State Forest i haven't gotten yet (2 years' worth of event - y'all have been busy ;-), extra MA mystery clues i solved over the last 3 years, and clues for the place we're staying *before* the event.

yeah. i'm addicted.

That's just plain crazy talk about bada$$ snakebites. LOL

With the recent discussion of thndrkttn's trials with the black snake hiding in the spare tire, I got to thinking. This is usually not a good thing.

You know how our hobby tends to take us and our cars to the periphery of wooded areas? Perhaps for hours at a time? Leaving our cars undefended?

What about people who have carports or park their cars outside their houses without benefit of enclosed garages?

thndrkttn was lucky enough to have her husband actually see the snake. What about all those times that your vehicle may be exposed to passing hitchhiking reptiles and you aren't there to witness them climbing aboard?

You're welcome. Have a nice day! (Especially tigs, who will now never get in a car again.)

This can't be the first time that a snake has gotten up under one of the cars. We have four (don't ask), it's bound to happen.

~tigs (who never goes into her own garage without a stick. yes, i'm like that)

Yeah, I was going to mention that we have found a LONG snake skin in the garage. I named that one Snakey McSnakerson. The one under the truck Donald named Jake.

What's stick used for?

No. She won't.

I can honestly, sincerely promise that I will NEVER again have a series in the works for two years and I will NEVER have 18 boxes in one series again, either. Not gonna happen. Nope. Never.

So we've finally managed to "carve out" a few hours for boxing in Andover next week. Due to our kids' schedules, and the fact that we're taking a vacation *during Dark Star* (what was I thinking?), we can only fit in two days of boxing, no overnighting.

*aw*

So Greg and I will be putzing around in Harold Parker on Sunday, all day long. Message me if you'd like to meet up.

Then, I'll be around on Thursday, most of the day, until I get kicked out. I may be able to swing through the Campground for a quick visit, depending on timing and rules and whatnot.

I'm bummed that it didn't work out this year, and I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure we don't have this stupid conflict again!

Amy, who already had Dark Star on her official Grateful Letterboxing "concert" shirt, so she had to at least make an appearance!

OK, i have now solved it and still don't know where i'm camping. Probably just gonna stay in Red Top, because we know the campground and it's easy. If anyone else knows of things closer that are not coming up on the google search engine, then PM me. . .

. . . or perhaps you have a very flat driveway for the Little Gray Wagon?

What's stick used for?

poking around boxes and garbage cans in the garage before i attempt to enter them. If there's anything suspicious, i can then fling said stick and scream a lot whilst running back into the house, yelling that whatever it is has now become Mr. Umbrella's job.

*nodding* i know the protocol.

You could stay where the boxes are planted. It will take you about an hour to get there from Red Top. Depends on what else you're doing while you're here, and how long you're staying. How long are you staying?

And no, I don't have a flat driveway. I have a driveway that's so steep we had to off-load the moving van into a pickup truck at the bottom of the hill and bring our stuff up that way.

so, i called The Lobster Claw again, just to remind them we're all coming (and also because i'm going to be leaving my house soon - oh dear GAAAAWD) and i got a VM that now states they are closed until July 9 for their 38th anniversary.

wha. . .?

so, i'm now hoping and praying that the young woman i talked to who said, "oh sure! come on in, not a problem. we have lots of places for you to sit and it's usually not crowded on a Wednesday" knew what she was talking about, and we're not going to be sitting in a parking lot making alternative plans. . .

any suggestions?

OMGosh!!OMGosh!!! I got a Blue Diamond!! How? When? Where do I find these new picks?
I was just poking around AQ, I don't even know what got me to that box, I thought I was looking at someone else's box with the same name, when I realized that it was mine! I want to remember that feeling forever! I'm so, so excited! Ohhhh, my husband isn't answering his phone.

My driveway is definitely not flat. Ask Artemis, Isabeau, peepstone, Big Red, etc. Plus I can't guarantee that there aren't a million snakes in my yard since someone at my house refuses to mow.

Unfortunately we won't be able to get up there that early--Purple Penguin is at theatre camp, and we're lucky I'll be able to pick her up at 4 on Friday and head right up... But maybe "until July 9" means that's when they re-open?

And btw, I hope that didn't come across as "Go visit grandma in the hospital". I meant it as I'm glad you did something to help the boys cope. Its funny how some of those memories you make come up 20 years later just outta the blue.

"Remember that time grandma was in the hospital and we made that stove thing..." ;)

How timely is the mention of Frederick Law Olmsted. I just finished The Devil in the White City, which is about the construction of the Chicago World's Fair and the concurrent atrosities of a serial killer who used it as a means to attract his victims. Olmsted was enlisted as the landscape architect for the Fair b/c of his success with designing Central Park in Manhatten.

Nope, I understood the intent. :) It did help me to start thinking of ways to make those kind of visits more upbeat for the kids though. I have a feeling that we have a few rough years ahead of us. Fortunately, the in-laws live downstairs, so we can be there to help, and are more involved in their day to day lives.

Thanks again,

I am feeling so overwhelmed. Just found 4 more boxes (large) boxes labeled LB stuff.

Now I have 11 left. Nothing is neat everything thrown together. Opened a box this morning. I think everything is the size of a quarter. I need a new way of organizing! Where are the elves that come out at night?
