We could only see it from 6:15-6:30. Then it slipped below the trees. Good thing we got up early to see it, because they were saying 6:30-7:15.

The explosion would not produce enough light to be visible to the naked eye since it is occurring in a galaxy far far away, although it would take a long time for the light to travel here, so the timing may be accurate.
