Thank you everyone! For the beautiful diamond you gave Eli and Joe and me for Christmas! It's so sparkly!

Thank you to everyone who has been out hunting my boxes lately. My boxes enjoy the visitors! I have more boxes ready to plant, and several more carves done. And some donations from others I need to plant, as well!

I will get busy!

Oh, Dear. I know that he was a friend of yours, and of so many others. I am sad for your loss, and my heart breaks for his beloved wife. I am glad that I got to meet him, even briefly, at your event.

I always interpreted "N/A" as not applicable, meaning I wanted to make some sort of comment about the box, like "the bridge was gone, so I couldn't finish the clues" (does not fit into the "find" or "I am pretty sure it is missing" category).

Perhaps, one reason why N/A may not be listed with usage explanation in AQs Glossary is because "N/A" is open to different interpretation.

It's possible the reason my choice of N/A is shown as "Found" (a green check mark) is because in order for it to be deemed as "Not Acceptable" it first has to be "Found" by the searcher.

Apparently it may be OK for the reporting finder may choose "N/A" if they have good reason to believe any of the following:

1) Lbox location is Not Acceptable as found
2) Lbox container is Not Acceptable as found
3) Lbox contents are Not Acceptable as found
4) Lbox clue is Not Acceptable (misleading, inaccurate)

On the other hand the owner of the Lb may interpret a recorded "N/A" as meaning "Not Available." Implying the Lb was temporarily removed (hopefully not moved or stolen) by another Lber for logging-stamping and therefore "Not Available" for the next Lber to record their find.

Because "Attempted" is no longer a choice option for "Record/Find" (and not explained in AQ Glossary) I chose "N/A" to mean "Numerous Attempts." However, I've been informed that when selecting "N/A" it's apparently recorded on the owners list of plants with a green check mark indicating that particular owners Lb was "Found" by me (even though it wasn't).

Removing "Attempted" as an option has resulted in some confusion and consequently hard feelings toward me because of a misunderstanding by the owner. One reason why "N/A" may not be listed with sufficient explanation in AQs Glossary is because "N/A" (Not Applicable) is open to different interpretation. Removing "Attempted" as an option has not been helpful.

I've enjoyed his boxes both in Oklahoma and Missouri. I'm so sad to hear this news. His beautiful artwork has always brought a smile to my face and he will be missed. Big hugs to his wife as well as Okie Dog.

We are very sad and with heavy hearts today. We are very lucky to have met this generous man several times and had the pleasure of talking with him on quite a few occasions. He was a an inspiration to me and certainly was a joy to find his art and share in his talents. He will be missed. Spakinois and Jazzy Q

No. Again, N/A is what you chose when you don't want to do anything with a box. It doesn't log a find and it doesn't log an attempt. You must have accidentally logged a find (the page does default to having found selected). N/A does not add/drop finds and it does not affect the status of the box.

Unless you also leave a comment, the owner won't even know that you're even submitting the form if you select N/A.

what is recommended for listing the clue, planter, etc. for an event box series that is traveling from event to event by mail? Different planter each event so it might be table top or clued; obviously carver doesn't change...

So sad that we have lost such a contributor to our community. I had the pleasure to meet him here in Portland, while he and his wife were on a cruise that stopped in Portland. His wife chose to shop, and Glenn wanted to box. He forgot his logbook on the ship and wasn't allowed back on to get it, so he used my card stock and made a little Portland logbook. I had a blast chauffeuring him around town.

I think you list it as a traveling event box and you list the events it's traveling to. Don't know about clues--probably they would be WOM & handed out at the event. That's what I've seen done, anyway.

I just found the coolest thing! I was looking at a post by FloridaFour about her new diamond (congrats BTW!!) and read in crosscresent's reply that she has a box in TN, so I got curious and wanted to see if I could see a map of all her plants. I went to advanced search, plugged in just her name in the appropriate field and bam, there's a world map with all her plants. Very cool!!

Ditto ~ that's how my traveling event boxes have been listed. It's up to each individual event host to handle it however they wish, depending on what they have in mind. It's all good.

The "Letterboxes -->
Box Rankings" link doesn't seem to be giving any info today. I get the "Sorry, you have no boxes currently eligible for ranking" message. I think it's fun to check this page first of the month and see how things have shuffled. Is there a glitch in the system? I'm pretty sure I have a box or two planted that should still qualify! ;o)

Those bags last forever.

Actually, some of them are biodegradable. Plastics can be made of non-petroleum sources and most of those are biodegradable. Look up polylactic acid. I couldn't find out quickly how soon it will break down.

I just tried this for my brothers boxes but none showed up for Oklahoma and I know he has series here in Tulsa...wonder what I did wrong that they wouldn't show up? I just put his name in the planter field and checked hand carved and that's it, did I miss something? Thanks. oh, and clicked on map this.

For that kind of box, I think of the planter as the person who created the box and the owner as the person who is currently in charge of them. Whenever the box is sent to someone new, I'd just change the owner.

If there's a chance that some of the event boxes will attend an event but others won't, it might make sense to list the individual boxes in different listings rather than a series. That way, you can list exactly which ones will be at a certain event. If the stamps should always stay together, though, listing it as a series makes more sense.

This theme is indeed in honor of Safari Man. You can look at all the different themes here, and the "Premium Hat Day" specifically is here. These pages are under your Preferences, which is under the My Page tab on the top right.

You can set any theme you want, rather than go with the default theme that AQ changes automatically. So if you like a certain theme, you can have it all the time. However, then you won't know when AQ has changed to "Hat Day" and Ryan has unleashed premium perks upon the puny mortals. Unless I'm mistaken, this hasn't happened since early May. I would keep my eyes peeled on certain days.
